Players that HF Boards overhyped?

I don’t mean prospects who end up disappointing or busting. I mean NHL players who get insane hype on this message board and end up not living up to it. I also don’t mean players who hit their potential and then regressed like Pettersson.

Off the top of my head, both Parayko and Ekman-Larsson were hyped like crazy earlier in their careers, to the point that you’d think they’d be like top 5-10 defencemen. They both ended up becoming great but not truly elite players.

A Hart, Lindsay, and three time Rocket winner is a bit of an odd choice. I'm sure some Leafs fans suggested he was equal to or better than McDavid in which case, that would have been overhyping him. Still, at absolute worst, he's one of the top ten players of the decade to this point. If we're considering that overhyped then Dahlin and Hughes will be considered utter failures unless they can reach a Hart contender level of play.

On the Coyotes board, Tyler Steenbergen seems to have gotten quite a bit of hype and discussion as we hoped he’d turn into a late bloomer after being a somewhat late pick (128th overall).

He ended up never making it.

I was excited when Leafs added him but I can safely say he’s one of the worst D in the league.

I disagree.

I don't like Montreal at all, but I don't think he is overrated in general (obviously, some homers do get carried away with signing his praises). He produces at a very impressive clip and makes his team much better.
