Players that grew (in height) from their draft year

I was reading some prospect threads, etc and i always take notice in players size (undersized, tall players, etc)

My question is, any good examples of players that were considered "undersized", and ended up growing a few inches? These players are just 18, they potentially have room to grow. Any crazy examples, where a player was like 5'10 drafted, and ended up 6'2 or so?
You don't really grow after 18 anymore.

Heres a good one.......

Brenden Dillon at 15 was 5'2 105lbs. and of course no WHL team drafted him...

at 17 he went to Seattle Thunderbirds camp and made the team and he was 5'10

Played next few years and played out his 20 year old season and was passed over in 3 NHL drafts. Dallas signed him as a free agent at 20 and he was 6'2 209lbs.

Now he is 6'4 225lbs, with over 300 NHL games under his belt and 4 wins away from a cup with a 15 million dollar contract.

so since after 15 years old he grew 14 inches and gained 120 pounds... seems impossible but its true

Makes you wonder if there is a medical way to manipulate that. We know about abnormalities to the pituitary glad cause growth. I'm surprised some 'mad scientist' doctor hasn't fiddled around with it, especially considering the huge money in professional athletics these days.

Oh they have, I've seen proof of it in the back of certain magazines, you can grow inches easy!

Ales Kotalik caused no end of concern when he first came over to the US among Sabre fans who only had his draft year listed heights and weights to go on. IIRC, he was listed at under 6' and 178 lbs. He played at 225 and was about 6'1".

I think Stalberg was 5'9 when drafted, so he worked very hard to be a great skater, in order to compete in the NHL, and wound up having a growth spurt to 6'3, to go along with that speed.

Adam Lowry was something like 5'8" when he started in Junior, 6'2" at the draft and made it to 6'5"

here is his WHL picture lol

That is crazy!

I wonder how many grew and how many "grew". Where they had their actual height at the combine and then got the stat sheet 2 inch bump when they made bigs.

MSL was about 5'8 the day before team Canada listed their roster last Olympics but had a growth spurt all the way to 6'0 on the sheet. What are they feeding that boy?

Depends on the individual.

As long as you're growing every year, even if it's just a quarter or a half an inch, it means you're not done.

So if a player grew a bit (or a lot) from his 17 years to his 18, then he still has room.

There is a leg lengthening scene in Gattaca (1997), but leg lengthening surgery has existed for even longer following an invention by Ilizarov. Now, before someone makes some questionable association, I'm not saying anyone in the NHL has used that, I'm just replying to another post. The guys being drafted are all young and quite a few can still grow because their growth plates are still open.
