Players that completely checked out after getting paid

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I would make a small distinction here...

Therr us a difference between someone having s break out yr before thry hit free agency and never repeat it and/ or they change teams and losing chemistry/ system fit.

Totally see your point. Imho part of the reason the Oilers lost Broberg. Was Nurse's fault. Oilers still hurting and scared after Nurse boned them.
We lost Broberg do to coaching and management. Guy just wasn't given the chance and wanted out regardless of who was around. If we were giving him a fair shake last year I bet we are signing him for a lot less than he ended up in STL with.

Nurse eats up a lot of cap space no doubt, but year over year the Oilers(as well as others) just find a way to burn up their cap space and then when there is no money to add players or sign a guy like Broberg, then Nurse gets the hit.

Jeff Jackson went out and spent 10mil on vet forwards for this club this summer all of whom for the most part haven't worked out our in Skinner's case the coach doesn't like. 10mil that could've been used better.

I just remember Dipietro skating in with a grin, like it was two buddies about to play wrestle, only to have his jaw busted 2 seconds later.

Never gets old.

The team around him went to crap. Gladly he still managed to squeeze out that 💯+ point season and got traded.
He was completely checked out his entire time in SJ. The only reason for his 100-point season was trying to escape, and even then, he certainly wasn't engaged while playing defense.

Pens fans, how has he looked to you?

Having met him, he didn't seem like the brightest bulb in the pack.

I'll never forget when the Coyotes traded for him and shipped off Daniel Briere in the trade. I was so upset. One of my friends told me the news during lunch at my high school, and I started smacking the table in frustration. The security guard had to tell me to knock it off. Interestingly enough, he was an older guy who had played two years in the Detroit Red Wings' farm system before calling it quits.

Have I got a funny story for you...

Only guy Im really familiar with here.

Seto had issues with alcohol and was traded before ever playing a game for SJ after signing his contract. The guy seemed pretty depressed. Hopefully hes happy and healthy post NHL

Carey Price for me. He signed that contract with a year left on the old one, his numbers tanked hardcore likely cause of you know he entered the Player assistance program likely years after when things started…
Price had a .918 save percentage the season his contract began. Check out the stats for Canadiens goaltenders not named Price and tell me if you still think his numbers tanked for reasons other than playing with a horrible team.

Jack Campbell got $27 million and forgot how to skate

That isn’t hyperbole

This guy forgot how to skate.
There is a video of his first year where he stays in the butterfly. Like he decides to post up and refuses to stand up.the play goes the other way, there is a turnover in the neutral zone and the puck is coming back his way and he is still in the frigan butterfly and they score.

Some guys just hit the age and injury wall - I don't think Mr. Ranger Chris Drury checked out after his big UFA payday, but he did break down. Same with Setoguchi after his big goal season - the knee went and he was no longer quick enough to get to open ice to use his shot reliably.

This one I can agree with. Had one good playoff run after being mediocre in the regular season. Since then, no playoffs, tons of mediocrity

On top of all that he has openly clashed with Grier, Boughner, Quinn, AND Warsofsky and thinks he's entitled to ice time when his play has very clearly been detrimental to the team. He has also refused to waive his NMC on at least two different occasions. He knows he can't get away with his toxic attitude on any other team so he's just going through the motions until his albatross contract finally ends. I don't think a single team gives him an offer after next season.
