The small guys probably like to add a inch. Bad for them its not cm, thats easier to cheat with since it is a shorter unit.

Bedard has to be 5"9 - today. Could be 5"11 when he is fully grown. But Michkov isnt the tallest guy either. Both are quite stocky. To bad Michkov got injured, I feel it hurt his developement hard.

Crosby is a classic. 5"11 or 6"0? 6"0 sure looks better on paper.

I also wonder about Patty Kanes heigth.

Crosby's always been listed at 5'11.

I feel like it's more rare to see instances in the other direction. Guys who are actually taller than listed.

I'd say most NHLers 6'0" or under, have exaggerated "listed" heights to some extent. It's particularly bad when you have guys who are actually in that 5'10"-5'11" range who just get listed as 6'0" by default.

I feel like Cale Makar is a notable weird exception to this. He seems pretty on par with 6'0" MacKinnon to me. But is actually listed at 5'11", which is also probably accurate.

I'd say that the clear majority are inflated. I've been basically face to face with Ovechkin, Crosby, and MacKinnon, and they are all clearly shorter than listed. I'd call Ovechkin 6'1, Crosby maybe 5'10 but probably at least half an inch shorter, MacKinnon probably 5'10 with maybe half an inch. Randomly Noah Dobson did seem to be his listed height (6'3) when using a urinal one buffer urinal away from me. Gretzky was a bit taller than I expected. I've walked by Seguin and his listed 6'1 is a big no, probably 5'11. Tyler Ennis is very short, he's listed at 5'9 but looked a bit shorter than that.

Came here to say exactly this. And it happens in women's sport too, such as basketball. Height gets exaggerated, as it looks better/more formidable to the opponent on paper.

Crosby has never been listed at 6’ 0 though has he?

I don’t know why Tage thinks anyone believes he’s 6’6. He’s clearly over 9 feet tall

Isn’t he listed at 6’7? I’d say that’s pretty accurate as he’s clearly shorter than Chara

How much taller was Gretzky than 6’0? Sure it had nothing to do with the shoes he was wearing?

It’s an interesting topic actually. I wonder how these data are reported. And at what age. If the data are self-reported (and the height doesn’t go up later), then maybe young players are trying to increase chances of getting drafted higher?

Tell that to NBA players, absolutely none of their listed heights are correct lol
Those dudes might as well add feet to their height, not inches, hehe.

I'd say that Grezky was 5'11 at the time. He may have been listed at 6 feet but I never took that seriously. He was kind of lanky and it made him seem taller than I expected.

Oh I see so you expected him to be a fair bit shorter than 6'0. I always thought he looked like 6'0 but assuming you saw him in his younger days that's probably correct.
