Sorry, didn't realize you were the uniform guy.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, just stating that teams have clearly been trying to go the other way, and associate themselves with colours so their brand stands out more.
remember the cream and word mark craze of early 2000's? mistake

im not the uniform guy, but I am a jersey collector and I do have strong opinions on bad uniforms because they are unnecessary, every team has the ability to ice really sharp uniforms.

They’re doing that because marketing departments deliberately roll out new looks on a regular cadence. It’s not about what looks the best, it’s about making more money by always having something new on the rack.

its a little too much teal, with black pants they would be fire, just like the Avs. When the ads went to blue pants it was too much. too much of one colour ruins everything. I love the dark blue and orange oiler alts as a jersey, but combined with the blue pants ands socks it's just too much of one thing.
While I mostly agree, let's not forget: teams hate using different pants for home/away sets, it's extremely rare. So, if the Sharks went back to black pants, it would make their home set look really nice, but it would take away from their away set, which would become almost all white/black (a little teal on the elbows and waist). The away being white with teal pants looks very sharp :thumbu:

Still prefer their originals, though, with the teal sleeves all the way down from the elbow and teal hem stripes on the white home jersey. If it ain't broke...

Some teams can pull it off, making a bright primary color dominate their uniform set. Nashville comes to mind even though they have blue pants, I think their home set looks great. My team, Pittsburgh, has had primarily yellow/gold (aka sport gold) uniform sets in recent years that I think looks awful. I liked Minnesota's Subway set from recent years and Dallas had that neon green set that was passable if only because it's an interesting novelty.

I hate the Flyers but I will admit that Philly knows how to put together a nice looking uniform set especially using orange as a primary color in a way that Anaheim just has not figured out how to do.

Not sure if Cutter Gauthier counts since he's played one regular season game for the Ducks but I don't think many non Ducks fans saw it and our only real adds were Fabbri and Dumoulin, and that's not as fun for this thread. So Cutter in the new jersey as the rookie squad's captain.

Never thought of this before but you’re right. Something off about having the extremities highlighted in bright orange and then all that white/light gold in the center, creates way too much negative space, makes the arms and legs look disembodied.

Could be better:

Imagine Stamkos rocking one of these! :D (trying to stay on topic-ish?)

I absolutely love the checkerboard pattern on the bottom two and on those blue alternates they had just before the sport gold era really kicked into gear.

The Danbury Trashers had a set with checkered flag accents that I thought looked incredibly good. I'm just a sucker for basic patterns like that and houndstooth, etc.

Works especially well for Nashville given the Vols’ longtime association with the checkerboard motif. Love when teams incorporate a nod to the local history.

Clearly organizations see it the other way. In the last few years we've seen San Jose, Calgary, Carolina, and Colorado change from black pants to matching their home colours (except Colorado went blue).

Carolina has always had red pants with the red uniforms. They added black pants as a second pants option to go with the black jerseys, but apart from one experimental game and the reverse retro reds, all of three games in their history, they've never worn black with the red jerseys.
