Boo Nieves deserve an own player discussion after 5 years in development. Facts he is only 23 years old now, but he has been struggling for 5 years since the beginning of (2017-18) season to be part of the NHL team. He had a concussion earlier, but he seems to recover from that injury - so any chance that he will succeed this year?

Jim thinks he stunk from top to toe in this year training camp from Blueshirt Underground radio - and other fans might have lost patience concerning this draft pick back in 2012.

I`ll wait to evaluate his skillset since I need to watch more of Boo Nieves compete against other 4th lines in NHL. I added a poll with a simple question so happy voting! :)

I think his ceiling is likely a 4th line player. I just didn't see much from him this preseason that impressed me too much.

The guy has very good hands and great wheels. I just don't see him as a point producer and he's never really put up goals in numbers anywhere and he tends to try to make a pass than shoot the puck 90% of the time. I kind of see him as a potential Grabner with less finishing skills and better passing skills. The problem with him passing too much is he becomes easy for goalies and defenses to read. So yeah--4th liner and he could be good in that role.

Definitely has the speed to keep up at the NHL level and be a 4th liner. But I don't think he ever becomes a particularly good one unless he changes his mentality to put more pucks on net. He doesn't process the game quick enough in my opinion, and he won't have high quality wingers where he would slot into play. Needs to rely on more of a basic style to succeed.

At this point though I have my doubts if he can effectively make that transition, but should be ok as a callup in case of injury on the 4th line if needed.

I expected to see much more out of him in the preseason but he doesn't look like he could really handle 4C duties at all.

Hopefully AV give him a chance to build some confidence this year - it`s a relative high draft pick in 2012 unless our scouts completely missed. He might have higher ceiling and that is exciting for me. Maybe it`s still hope? :)

Fontaine will end up taking the spot that was supposed to be his.
That's possible, but it's also worth mentioning that Nieves was a more effective offensive player on the wing during his Junior and Senior seasons, IIRC. So he could always end up there.

Have never been high on him and he did nothing this preseason to change that opinion. Likely a career AHLer.

I don't know about him. I saw nothing in the preseason that made him stand out. I don't see the appeal of him. Actually a better way to put it is, I simply don't think he earned a spot on the team. His speed is great but I don't see where it changes the game the way the other speed demons we are accustomed to see have.

He got outplayed by a 29 year old journeyman and a 1st year pro who is 3 years younger than him in pre-season. I'm pretty down on him.

I was hoping Nieves would turn out well. His agility and speed would be an overall plus to the lineup if he can bring some other stuff with it. The crummy losing environment in Hartford seems to be hurting the organization's chance of having a few post-1st-rounder or mid-to-late round prospects and projects hit their potential. Halverson and Skapski were wrecked in their time in Hartford and we haven't had a graduate that's not a high end talent for a while. Most recently, Skjei looked better in his time in New York than he ever did in Hartford too.

Wasn't this guy slotted as our new 1C this season by a certain create trade proposal poster.

55 points in 55 games last year for Carey in the AHL. Those are some serious numbers for that league. I don't know if I'm surprised he made the Rangers.
Chris Bourque is an AHL monster.

Crap NHLer.

Point totals don't tell the story.

He’s pretty much toast as a blueshirt at this point.
