8th - up for grabs. Bruins or Sens
Moneypuck has NYR at just 16% chance to make the playoffs. I can see the final 2 spots in the East going down to the last few games of the season, just like last year

Here are the percentages outside the top 6 teams:

Flyers 67%
Senators 54%
Bruins 44%
Rangers 16%
Red Wings 16%
NYI 14%
Pens 10%
Sabres 6%
Habs 2%
BJ’s 1%

In recent years around this part of December they had about 13-14 of the spots predicted accurately. By Xmas closer to 14-15

“Our polling shows that playing the same teams every year in the playoffs has actually enhanced the fans’ viewing experience…” - Bettman, probably

Those odds calculate to roughly plus 7/5 for Boston and 5/1 on Rangers. I'd take a shor on both based on talent vs the other teams

That’s moneypuck.com’s algorithm’s prediction though, not the betting odds

Cursory google search for the betting line sent me to this site

which lists NYR at between -174 and -190 to make the playoffs and between +136 to +155 to miss

Looking more and more likely that the Rangers are cooked. They were good for 3 years, it's not like it's some long held spot they're giving up.

14/16 does seem to be a lock.

WC2 in the East and WC2 in the west are the only spots I see available for teams on outside looking in.

The Rangers are imploding, I don't see them making the playoffs unless Drury wakes the #@%$ up and does more to fix it...
players need to wake the f$#@ up. Including the cocky guy in net.
These guys were first over all last season, went to conference finals. 2 wins away from Final.
Its on them not to shit the bed every night.....not the GM to come save them.

safe bet that 14, likeky 15 of the teams in a play off spot this morning, will be in after game 82.

kind of my point.

As for the Ranger, this falls on the GM and Owner for their stupid crusade of calling out players publicly and likely destroying the locker room.

awww....poor players. Hope they and their fans aren't using that excuse for much longer. 50 games to go.

hand wave it all you want, it doesn't change anything. There were a presidents trophy winning team with little change over... Its outside forces wrecking the chemistry of the team.

The Bruins, third place in the Atlantic. Wow. They're making progress, but it still feels like diddly poo.
