Looks like the canadiens didn't really think that it was an issue but Subban has been playing with Gorges & Bouillon for the most part of the year.

If you want to play him for 25 + minutes, you need to get him a good defense partner that can play big minutes.

A guy like Jay Bouwmester or a Seabrook
 
Gorges and Subban is a decent pairing.

The Habs don't have any capspace for another top pairing defenseman. Bouwmeester and Seabrook both make more than $5 million a year. The Habs would have to trade one of Gorges/Emelin + other valuable assets to acquire a legit top pairing D.
 
Francis Bouillon.

I heard Bobby Orr said he could have been so much better had he been able to observe Bouillon play.

Or maybe Therrien dreamed this, I don't know.
 
Markov-Subban was one of the best D pairings in the league. The Habs were riding on that pairing on a 10-0-1 streak before being blown out by the Kings.

Therrien then decided to dismantle his best D pairing just because.
 
Subban plays a lot of his minutes on the powerplay so you don't need someone who can log 25+ a night, just someone who can play the even strength minutes with him which is why Gorges is fine. Tinordi looked solid in the small amount of time paired with Subban so maybe he can take over that role in the near future.
 
...because Therrien, plain & simple...just say it...let it roll off your tongue...become familiar with it...get used to it, because we're going to be saying it alot in the near future...:rant:

Everybody keeps reading it as Monocle when I write that. :laugh:

Mononcle means 'uncle/my uncle' in french, but my usage stems more from saying ' un vieux mononcle', old out of touch fart who doesn't know jack **** about anything.

i just realized that.
But come to think of it not a bad moniker go ahead and change it if you like with my blessings.
 
JM was using the Subban-Gorges pairing all the time and a lot on the penalty kill. We had the #1 Penalty kill that year.

Subban-Markov was an amazing duo and we went on a hell of a streak with them playing together.

So the obvious answer is to play your Norris winning defenceman with the guy you had in the pressbox for a 16 (i think) game stretch. Then you bench him for "trying to do too much" when a lot of times Frankie B. is not offering him an option so Subban is forced to make something happen.

This is perfect. MT is too worried about imposing his dominance over players. It's like he has such an inferiority complex that he has to single out PK to make sure the he doesn't realize that he is an elite defenseman.

News flash Therrien, PK is elite and you need to start playing him 30 minutes a game with our second best defenseman. Don't play him with our 7th defenseman because it limits his effectiveness.

Does anyone have any examples of other coaches playing their clear #1 d-man with a scrub?
