Proposal: Pittsburgh - Winnipeg/ Pittsburgh - Vancouver

If Fleury waives for Vancouver I could see Fleury for Markstrom, and maybe a small piece work. It makes sense for Vancouver because they get an elite goaltender, coming off a great season as a stop gap until Demko. Makes sense for Pittsburgh if they want to protect Murray, and get a young, serviceable backup with a low cap hit which they may need to be able to re-sign their high value contracts next season.

No it doesn't, don't need MAF, we have Miller and Markstrom.

To Winnipeg:
Marc-Andre Fleury

To Pittsburgh:
Ondrej Pavelec
Michael Spacek
2nd round pick

Or

To Vancouver:
Marc-Andre Fleury

To Pittsburgh:
Ryan Miller @ $5M
Alex Biega
2nd round pick

Edit : I added a second proposal, the 1st wouldn't work because Hellebuyck isn't exempt, but the 2nd could work because Demko doesn't have to be protected.

Oilers will take Fleury and the Pens unprotected 1st for Andrew Ference. Never mind Winnipeg or Vancouver.

Is Murray worth a 1st round pick? Hell ya.

Pittsburgh might have waited too long with Fleury. I think Dallas is the only team left with no NMCs and a need of a starter, but there's also Bishop who could be on the move. I'm pretty confident that one of Murray and Vasilevskiy will have to be exposed next June.

Pittsburgh assuredly would buy Fleury out if it came to that.

Don't even have to buy him out, just give him away for free.

The team is in talks with Markstrom for a 3 year extension and we have one of the best goaltender prospects in the world.

Of all the proposals I've seen on here this one makes absolutely no sense for Vancouver. Another starting goaltender is literally the last thing the organization needs.

Massive pass from Vancouver.

Absolutely not interested in any way, shape or form.

Not sure how many other ways we can express this...

No thought given to Vancouver's needs here. Flower albeit a decent tender, Canucks already have 3 goalies signed for next season, 1 guy is vying for a starting position and the other is trying to desperately hold onto it while the young guy gets all the AHL starts he can handle.
Markstrom has been nothing but improved over his time in Vancouver, he very well may become a regular starter in the league, an average one but at least a starter. Flower blocks any development path and honestly isn't the Bishop like jump in performance.

Pittsburgh isn't looking for a goal with a cap hit more than 3m for the next few years... I would prefer Pavs because he's not signed as long but Miller is a backup now at best for a contending team.

I don't think JR is any hurry to trade MAF and I don't think MAF has asked to be moved. MAF could very be the Pens #1 goalie next year. Moving MAF has to have a goalie coming back to help insulate MM.

As for Vancouver, stuck in no man's land until the Sedins retire, I could see Benning trading for MAF with 50% retained Miller and more going out. I can't see MAF being all that eager to go to Vancouver though.

Vancouver has 0 interest in acquiring MAF.

He's a good goalie, but we just have no use for him. Markstrom is our starter and will hold the fort until Demko is ready. We have 0 incentive to bleed draft picks for aging goalies with NMCs when we're trying to rebuild.

Look for someone like Dallas to unload MAF on. They're actually competing right now and could use him.

The clause can travel with the player even if he consents to being traded or is claimed on waivers
This requires that the acquiring team sign an addendum to the contract ensuring that the clause does in fact travel with the player (written by the player's agent)
If the acquiring team refuses to sign the addendum, and the player waives his clause anyway, at that point the clause may be nullified.

NMCs can be nullified by the acquiring team...pass it on. I've seen this same misconception repeated constantly in trade proposals.

Fleury is a clear upgrade, and you can still obviously keep Miller. I could see Benning doing this atleast since your management really seem to want to become a playoff team ASAP for some reason.

No he wouldn't because he has seen how much Markstrom has developed over the last two years. No need for MAF.

You can't think that this makes any kind of sense. Surely you can't. You must only think this only because you think poorly of Benning, which is, I suppose, fair enough. But the Markstrom extension mitigates even this.

Anyone who knows the Canucks well knows this deal makes no sense for the Canucks. The goaltending plan (and contracts) is already set. Miller > Markstrom > Demko. Markstrom will take over this year and be our starter until Demko steals the job from him in a few years. Markstrom has shown nothing but improvement (mentally and technically) over the last two years and is ready to be a starter.

Sure, but is Hellebuyck ready to take over the number one spot? Fleury can be their number 1 for now and when Hellebuyck is ready he'll take over.

Helle is just as ready as Murray, so question is, can you afford dumping MAF?
