Rackell feels a little over the hump for the Sabres. As much as he seems useful this season he will be 32. 34 or 35 when contract expires. As a team trying to ENTER the playoff window he might be bad before we ever really compete.

My assumption is Ostlund or Rosen, and Ryan Johnson on defense (paws off hes mine).

Pittsburgh is not contending for a Cup and is not a few NHL ready prospects away from doing so. That team needs a complete teardown and rebuild.

I’m not sure Rakell is a dire need for Buffalo but people scoffing at him haven’t been paying attention. He’s been awesome this year, one of the few bright spots in Pittsburgh.

I’m not sure why Buffalo would want him, though. They’re not really in a position to be giving up prospects for 30 year olds.

Not so much the age but carrying 3.5 years of term left does definitely impact his value. I think he’s in a bit of a hard zone to gauge because he’s been so good but his contract limits his market. Unless Pittsburgh retains and it’s a tough pill to retain that long on a very good player…

I don’t think he’s the guy Buffalo would look at…but he’s under the radar very good this year. Just pointing that out.
