Penguins trade Rakell
Habs trade Laine and Mailloux

Would there be interest in a deal around this? The Penguins get a good RHD prospect and a 1 year cap dump/reclamation project, while the Habs get a top-6 winger on a good contract.

Its a very good offer. It depends on what Habs management think of David Reinbacher’s NHL readiness imo.

I would do it and bet on DR over Mailloux.

Rackell away from Crosby would take a significant drop in points. But still a top 6 winger and 3 years is a good term given his age.

Again, Habs are evaluating their RHD and one of Mailloux / Reinbacher will be on the Habs.

Most see Reinbacher making it over Mailloux which likely triggered Mailloux trade rumors from the Athletic

If Dubas was willing to trade Rakell for this value, he would have been gone at the deadline. The rumored price was a 1st and a good prospect. This is a good prospect and a negative value contract. No way can I see him dropping his ask that much in 3 months. Should he? That's a different story.

I think Montreal has enough picks where you can probably swing an extra 2nd out of this deal and not get much pushback. Any more value than that is being unreasonable with asking for Rakell IMO

The ask for Rakell was unreasonable, which is why he is still here. Dubas didn't want to move him at the deadline. I doubt he has changed his mind on that.

I want him to, it is the the logical thing to do, but he'll probably do the opposite.

I’ve never been the biggest Rackell fan. He’s a good player though. I’d rather use Mailloux as an asset for a 2C.

I’m a bit indifferent. I’d say this might be a last resort deal for Hughes if everything else he’s trying to do doesn’t materialize
Exactly as how i see it. If the Habs are unable to address 2C or top 4 RHD via trade, this is a fall back plan. A consolation trade to apease yhe masses if disappointed Habs fans.

The rumored ask from Seravelli was two first round picks and a prospect of Dubas' choice. Yohe also called the Rakell trade price very high. I don't think they consider this deal or Rakell would be gone already as you said.

If it works for the Penguins it works for the Habs

Rakell fits our needs better than Laine, and Mailloux is probably getting traded this summer no matter what.

Unless the Habs could get a much better piece using Mailloux + 1st, I would just keep Laine and do that.

If the Prns retain of Rackell and take Laine, does the cost then go to Reinbacher as the add from the Habs?
never..everyone loves to flame habs trade proposals..but you think you're getting a top 5 pick / 20 yo / RD for a 32 year old winger?

As some have already mentioned, I prefer to trade Mailloux and that 1st for someone younger that fits the rebuild
