That was a debacle on a number of different levels.

On an interesting note, with the Stalberg tally, the Canes have now scored at least one goal in 80 consecutive games. The Canes have not been shutout in over a calendar year.

That is pretty remarkable. As inconsistent as our offense is, we haven't laid a goose egg in a long time.

They did that the last game. I think that was BP sending a message to the team to play through your struggles.

Well he benched Skinner and TT so I dont think that was the message at all. The message was suck it up sunshine, tomorrow's starter needs to be fresh and it isn't you.

I see we lost badly today, in a soul-sucking sinking pit of despair kind of way.

but enough about the inauguration, how did the #hcanes do?

All I remember is the "Carolina has a hockey team....Let's go Canes" part. I think that was hokey enough for me that I shut the rest out. Was that the 02 run?

That was the second edit. The original mentioned Primeau, among others, so it didn't last very long before the second edit. Eventually it got rid of the generic verse lyrics you mentioned and became a poor man's version of that famous jock anthem (don't remember the name of it).

Look, if I had told you at the start of the season that even with a young defense and an octogenarian goaltender, that our captainless team would only be 1 point away from securing a playoff spot...

Nevermind. Carry on.

I wasn't able to make the game and looks like I averted disaster. What a **** show this game was. This was basically a home game for the Penguins...just gross.

Someone who said that we are not a playoff team? Then what can Montreal say that they lost 10:1 and Pens lost 7:1 as well, just a very bad and **** game, we move on.

There is 82 games, we have had like 3 VERY bad games all season, in others where we lost, we were not bad. This one was very bad, I am sure tonight they will look much better after this **** show. Every team has games like this.

The last 2 games have looked like Slaving and Peshe hit a wall.....the grind seems to be getting to them eating up all those minutes. Ward has also seemed to hit the same wall....we rely on them guys so much.

The issue is that, up to this point, the Canes have been great at home and **** on the road. Obviously, it was going to tilt one way or the other and that would determine whether this team is a playoff team or not. Either they started winning away games or they start losing home games.

Now this is only one game, so it's not indicative of anything, but this was the first "away game" the team has played at home in quite a while. Probably since the Anaheim game.

I started watching this one in the second right when the wheels began to fall off. Sorry.

This was the first real stinker in a while.

I think the team played pretty well in the Columbus game overall, but they did mail it in on the third. Cam has been terribad these past 2 games, you could even begin to see the wheels starting to come off in the BUF and NYI games.

Honestly the thing that concerns me the most is the goaltending situation moving forward. Cam has regressed to October/November form. I hope he pulls it together soon. I'm disappointed that Peters decided to ride Ward for so long. We really need to improve our backup situation before getting a winger if we want to have a chance to make the playoff. With good/average goaltending I really think do think we can claim that last wildcard spot.

I'd really like to see the Canes go after Scott Darling. Though that will probably have to happen in the offseason when he hits UFA.
