GDT: PIT vs SJS Mon Jan 27 @ 1030est

Nice of the refs to help our unintentional tanking effort. Losing to the Sharks with Granlund scoring is perfect, I hope Sully is stewing.

This kinda hit me this morning but….we want them to tank right? Right. So if they’re losing with Sullivan why would we want them to fire Sullivan? If they’re losing with Acciari and Imana and one of the Glass’s at second center, why would we want other players in that mix?

I mean sure, they could let Sullivan come back next year after we get a top 5 pick but I doubt they will. Right? Right?!!

At this point, just go full “1983” mode. A top 3 pick will do much more for this organization and for Sid and Geno’s final years, than either sneaking into the playoffs or barely missing them again.
The Penguins aren't sneaking into the playoffs or barely missing them. This is one of the worst teams in the league. They are missing the playoffs by a lot.

This is my hope, Sullivan fired in the off season, but I honestly don't see them doing it. It's so bizarre.

Remember, Granlund only scored because somebody has to score on a bad team. He’s not actually a good player with multiple 60-point seasons under his belt.

Right!!

Like with how Glass is doing with..... Oh wait, maybe there's more to the Granlund situation... Like a nasty divorce, and a terrible coach.

No, wtf, the player is to blame always.

That's it for me. Until some moves are made I refuse to watch this nonsense. In fact, whoever Dubas reports to directly over there at Dunkin Donuts University (shout out to Handshake Line, awesome reference!) should be forced to watch this live. We should pony up to buy this person or robot or whatever to watch the Penguins play live. If WE are forced to watch, then this person or robot that Dubas answers to directly should also be forced to watch.

I have luke-warm defended Dubas for much of his tenure with the club so far, but this is indefensible. The coach blah blah blah...I know. He is problemo numero uno. But how long does it take Dubas to figure out his own coach??? He can ask any one of us and we can size up the situation in 15 seconds!!!

There is no defense for Ryan Shea playing in the NHL right now, while Owen Pickering is down on the farm. Pickering struggled when forced to play on the right side or forced to play next to Joseph on the little-used third pairing. But guess what? Letang never looked better this season than when paired with Pickering, and the kid looked great in that spot.

There is no defense for Nieto still being in the NHL, while the likes of Ponomarev, Koivunen, McGroarty and Broz languish in the minors. You send down Pickering to call up Imama, then double down on the stupidity by recalling Puljujarvi when Malkin goes down??? Kyle, we can save you a little time here: Sullivan does not like Puljujarvi, so when you recall him it is to sit in the press box while our fourth liners play top-six minutes. He also does not like P.O. Joseph, so maybe you should stop reacquiring players Sullivan hates.

geezus f%$#ing christ.

I'm definitely coping hard but I still think the team and Sullivan have a mutual parting of ways this spring after the RS is over. He's too arrogant for any self reflection, and the team has to go a new direction with a coach more capable and willing to actually coach younger guys.

I wish I had the same job security that Rust has. Derail the powerplay? Have some more ice time. Derail the break out? Have some more ice time. Derail the final two minutes with bonehead passes and stick whiffs? Have some more ice time.

The point was actively trying to tank vs trying to win……even though they have been rather unsuccessful in their attempts to win.

The only thing that I like about these moves or lack there of are that they seem to help us lose. I want a top 3 draft pick. I fear that the young guys may help us win too may games and we pick in the mid teens again.

The defense for doing these things is that it makes us worse, which should be the goal right now. We are not competing for anything except a high draft pick, so whatever makes us more likely to get it is the right move. Honestly, keeping Sullivan is probably the best thing for tanking right now. He has no answers, is too stubborn to consider anything other than his system that does not work with these players, isn't going to play young guys who might inject some energy and enthusiasm into the lineup, and the players have quit on him. We need to bottom out. The bonus is that it makes trading anyone we can trade the right move. There is no holding onto guys because the team is pretending to compete for the playoffs.

I don’t want them to tank.

You are right in one sense. But I think the other scary part is Sullivan and his lack of change.

Do we really want a guy that prefers aging veterans and his known propensity of playing old over young, handling what should end up a very high pick? Or even multiple of them?

He already should have no voice in the trade deadline (but know he certainly does). This is basically an old man holding onto his memories of how it once was while the world is passing him by.

Yes, his suckage of being a headcoach is helping us lose now, but this team needs to be aware that it could also help us continue to be losers if he's allowed to make important decisions moving into a rebuild.

This reminds me of how I used to cope when I was younger and went to the bars, when I saw the hot women and told myself "if only I approached them, I'm sure they'd give me their number".
