The ironic thing about life is that if Jarry had started over Murray in '20 the Penguins would have beaten Montreal. If Jarry had been healthy and not Louie Louie in 22 we would have beaten the Rangers, who went to the cup finals.

Jarry is absolutely horrible now, just as Murray can't make the show.

Goalies man. You gotta know when to put em in and when to pull em out.
Jarry won 2 playoff games in his career dude, really hard to say with any certainty he'd win a whole series.

This basis based on how awful of a goalie he was in the 2021 playoffs is hard to believe. Just from that series alone, I was always questioning any trust in him again.
Well nothing is black and white - in '20 Montreal was dumping and chasing and when we had the puck we were the better team. Jarry is a master of playing the puck compared to Murray. Jarry would have given us more possession time and with more possession time the pens take that series.

In 2022 Louie gave up several goals (including the series winning goal) that Jarry would have stopped. Healthy Jarry and the Pens take that series against the Ranger (they were the better team).

The contract Dubas gave out to him was heinous but I don't think anyone could have projected he'd fall off as hard as he did. When he signed that deal, he was coming off of a season with a .909 save% and a -2.8 GSAx, he was a perfectly mediocre starting goalie. He has completely collapsed since then.

Jarry is another marvelous example of "do not pay mediocre goalies". He's another guy on that Campbell/Merzlikins/Petersen group that wasn't good enough to justify the massive money/term they got.

Jarry is now the 11th highest paid goalie in hockey. Of the 10 guys above him, 7 had worse seasons than him last year (Gibson, Murray, Markstrom, Binnington, Grubauer and Merzlikins). The only guys who make more than him while giving better results are Vasilevskiy, Hellebuyck and Shesterkin.

Am I crazy about the deal? No, but this idea that Jarry is this shit goalie is a fantasy. He's injury prone and has consistency problems, especially towards the end of the season. But the fact is that he constantly gives above average performances year to year in the NHL.

Note to Kyle Dubas: Dont sign a 29 year old player to a big 5 year contract explaining you are hoping the player will reach "his potential!" If a player is 29 he is not a prospect anymore, just the terms he was using after the contract was announced was as insane as the actual contract!

The deal at the time stunk because it was far too long, but the AAV itself was fine. The issue is that it should have been like 2 or 3 years at that term, the deal is awful because it's 5 years long.
No, the deal was awful because Jarry falls apart when push comes to shove even in his good seasons and that was well known at the time. You don't need to commit to a goalie who is mentally fragile, especially when your team has such tendencies already.

So completely deflating for a bench
Anyone who's ever been on a team with a bad goalie knows how this feels. I had one beer league goalie get all pissy with me once because someone on the other team was behind the net, flipped the puck off his back and went in. The goalie was hilariously out of position.

Of all the many things Dubas struggles with, his management of goaltending situations has to be top of the list of just flailing around messing things up.

Just wanted to highlight this post as it's spot on.
