Puljujarvi has had lots of chances and just isn't good enough. Plain and simple.

He played well and got healthy scratched for bizarre reasons. He never got the time to workout of bad stretches the way some others get to, Sullivan had it out for a lot of Euro players that needed more time, unless you were Rakell who is desperately needed to make Crosby better, or Malkin who he royally f***s over every chance he gets, he doesn't give a shit about the Euro players. Pettersson went from an underrated solid top 4 to trash this year until he finally escaped to Vancouver. He then tried to "adjust" Karlsson's game and he's never looked the same since but EK gets all the hate and blame anyway.

Players like Nieto and Acciari are absolute garbage and produce far less and the PK isn't great with them, but they get a longer leash by Sullivan. Same for Beauvillier who gets preferential treatment while being a ghost for long stretches. JP was shifted all over the line up and used like trash. If he got the same rope as Acciari, he could maybe find a groove given he fought hard to come back and play.

Players leave and thrive for the most part after they leave the clutches of the dipshit that is Sullivan. Why this is a shock to so many still to this day when there's enough proof out there is comical.

A lot of the time with players who are hot shit in juniors but lacks depth to their games, they either can't or don't want to adapt (or a combination of both), when said shit hits the fan in senior hockey.

Guys like Pulju or Yak or even Pääjärvi, is it really that big of a mystery why they couldn't carve out decent careers at the highest level of hockey?

If you would have told me in early 2016 that both Laine and Puljujarvi would turn out to be duds, I wouldn't have believed you. I was so friggin high on both of these dudes. I still remember my reaction when Columbus took PLD over Puljujarvi.
