Proposal: PIT - ANA

Pens will add in FA or trade that doesn't involve that pick. Pens are moving Karlsson and maybe one of the forwards for prospects/picks. Graves is back with that contract and Pickering is up. so really Pens need a vet with size and grit here which will help the younger RD as well.

Not sure Penguins get anyone after 8 that projects to be the potential player that Minty does.

I suppose it would potentially be a trade done at the Pens pick if the Ducks have someone they REALLY want in addition to whoever they took at 8OA. Not likely but feasible.

I think it is poor value for a 21 yr old dman playing top 4 minutes today and who figures in our future. Not sure what else would need to be added to make the Ducks interested is moving Mintyukov.

If the Ducks move one of their young LHD then I think Zellweger is the player we move.

I'd rather the Ducks moved the #8 for a good young forward than move a good young player for a pick in that range. A good coach and an upgrade at forward could make the Ducks a playoff team next year. That should be the goal, not moving the opposite direction towards rebuilding.

9th overall for Pavel Mintyukov

Anaheim is somewhat flush at LHD, PIT needs young NHL ready LHD talent, Ducks can potentially package 8th and 9th together to move up in the 2025 draft.

Would be willing to take on a cap dump like Strome or Gudas from Anaheim too.
Doesn’t make a ton of sense for Anaheim. Value is fair/good.

But I think we have to see what Mintyukov is before we move him. I’d also be hesitant to move any of our young guys until we see them under a new coach/system.

I suspect ultimately zellweger will be the odd man out in Anaheim and we’ll roll with.

Not for something even less proven than him, they'd sooner package him for a better young defenseman than move him for a pick
The quintessential HF reply : meh, I want to keep my piece to trade up. And of course, it's impossible for both teams in a deal to trade up...

What is the incentive for Anaheim to draft a guy at #10, develop him for 3 years to where he’s looking like a top 4 defenseman, then start the whole thing over at #9 in a weak draft, and hope that they manage to be at the same place in 3 years?

This makes zero sense for Anaheim.

I would do it for the Rags pick, not ours.

We need a center far more than a young LD (said with full recognition of how bad our LD is).
