It clearly was the price it took as he didnt flip for less for anyone. Its not like the Pirates are notorious for throwing money around needlessly. They clearly have a 1.8 million dollar valuation on the guy. Obvious caveats about their ability to be correct.I'd be curious how vulnerable the verbal commitments to the international draftees from the top tier of Sasaki contenders to poaching since they will likely have to use most if not all of their international pool to sign him. Not sure I would necessarily offer 2x what the previous team did, but Pirates going to Pirate.
If only the Pirates were open to something like that to flip them at the trade deadline.
