We traded Cutch after 2 down years at age 31 when he was clearly going to be on the downside and got a guy in Reynolds who has been one of their best players for years.

Cutch ended up stabilizing as a professional .750 OPS guy through his late 30s, which is an awesome achievement. But it's hard to argue with trading him when they did and how they did.

A) reynolds didn't actually help them win crap
B) cutch is on record as not wanting to play elsewhere

I mean, it all worked out in the trainwreck of whatever it was they achieved in it... But he would have been higher on all pirates lists

Loyalty isn't a thing anymore, but it would have been cool to have a decent player who wanted to play for this stupid ass team

Who cares? Cutch had a cool/triumphant return in 2023. He would have gotten stale a long time ago otherwise.

If we are judging the acquisition of Reynolds by whether we won baseball games or not, you could say every single move was meaningless or irrelevant. Which, fair enough, but it isn't true.

You also are not holding Cutch accountable for his terrible performance in 2016 which was a very direct contributor to the end of their window.

On the other hand, Chandler is going the wrong way. Didn't make it outta the first inning yesterday.

I still really like Chandler but regardless of hype/prospect rankings I personally think Griffin is the better prospect. Like if Marcelo Mayer were offered for Chandler, I would take it. Probably not with Griffin.

Also, when is Esmerlyn Valdez gonna be promoted?

Griffin with yet another multi hit game.

Greensboro is loaded with talent right now. 40-19 so they've got to be considered favorites (along with the Mets team) to push for a title. While I do think KG will deserve a promotion later this summer, Altoona isn't in contention so hi staying in Greensboro and getting postseason experience would be valuable. At the end of the day, keep moving him up if the results continue to be stellar.

Will Taylor and Esmerlyn Valdez are definitely 2 others to keep an eye on moving forward this year.

I thought that Cherington's "offensive" acquisitions prior to last season would be rock bottom. The ones he made before this year are giving it a hell of a run. Horwitz a sub-.600 OPS in almost 100 PA's. Pham is utter trash. Frazier has been what he is, not completely useless, but the fact he's the best bat they added over the last offseason is just gross work.

Counting today, in 11 starts since April 19, Skenes has an ERA of 1.38. He's 2-5 in those 11 starts. Nice work, Ben.

The Pham signing was terrible and anyone with even half a brain knew that immediately. He was toast last year and there was no reason to think that would change. Just a complete waste of money and a good example of why I don't think the payroll is what is holding Cherington back. He simply can't identify hitters. If he had more money to work with he'd blow it all on Pham types anyway.
