OT: Pirates Talk: Lets Play Ball

Firing Shelton won’t fix this mess but not doing so is the greatest indication that management and ownership really doesn’t care.

Management may be saving Shelton's firing for the end of the season in the hopes it will buy them another year.

I think Nutting cans both in September. Not that it will fix the mess

They usually give a little false hope, but I think pretty much everyone realized this season was over after the opening series. And maybe even before that after one of the most inexcusable off seasons I’ve ever seen.

I get the Nutting factor, but it’s amazing how bad Cherington is at his job. The offense is one of the worst I can remember and there’s basically no help on the way.

It's truly stunning that he's traded allot of assets and has drafted in the top 10 for 5 years.............AND THAT's THE BEST LINEUP THAT HE CAN FIELD> How many are his players and how many of his players are actually worth a damn??? He should be sued for fraud.

It was definitely over before it began. They did nothing to try to improve or even avoid getting worse in the offseason. And even if you blame the owner for being cheap, it doesn't excuse the money that Cherington does spend on offense. He clearly has no clue what hitters look like.

I mean this is the guy that spent 3 years of the Pirates payroll on washed Hanley Ramirez, washed Pablo Sandoval, and bust Rusney Castillo when he had the chance to spend money on hitters. Why anyone defends his record in Boston - from WS winner to "get this guy the hell outta here as soon as possible" - and also the search firm that thinks that he is capable of working without the margin of error Boston affords - is delusion. Dude sucks as a GM. May legit be worse than Dave Littlefield when it is said and done

With respect to Cherington, maybe I am overlooking some trades, but I can only think of Bart, Bednar (first 3 years), and Falter as positives with Endy and Yorke as maybes from trades.

5 years isn't a lot of time for drafts, but I think it leaves 2020 (Gonzalez, Mlod, Jones have debuted) as potentially pretty good if Mlod and Jones pan out as starters, 2021 (Davis) as pretty bad as Davis might be a AAAA type at 1.1 with Chandler as a bright spot with 2022 on as too early to really say outside of Skenes.
