OT: Pirates Talk: Lets Play Ball

"A report."

It truly is amazing that people exist who are too stupid to read between the lines and understand simple economics of subsidized entities and not buy into PR nonsense put forth by the lackies who support MLB/Nutting's way of doing business. You have a right to that opinion or thought, but I'll be damned if I entertain it as fact when I absolutely know it's nonsense. Take away the revenue sharing and I'll stand on that hill with you, but there is a reason why LA and NY send truckloads of cash to a team like Pittsburgh.

Do I truly want the team to move? Of course not. That's an emotional response to the shitshow we endure 98% of the time under the current scheme.

But then I turn on the TV, the internet, etc, and see tens of thousands of mouth breathing drones who frequent message boards and fly banners over the stadium and city, spending hundreds upon hundreds of dollars (on a single game) to watch a team they bitch about on a daily basis, the glaring example of pure hypocrisy.

MLB and Nutting are laughing their asses off at the stupidity of the average person.

How f***ing stupid must a person be to pay $300 to go to PNC, and then chant "sell the team" and accost Nutting as he smiles, walking through a crowd of people who probably shouldn't be legally allowed to procreate, but already have.

The only way this team remains in Pittsburgh is if Nutting sells. And if he does, it'll be a PR stunt to fool the fans into thinking a new owner will run the team any differently. We've already been through that with Mark Cuban's
I know a lot (not everything but a lot) about baseball finance . Its been reported what they made last year, confirmed by sources and the team. Further confirmed by the old financial leak from a decade or so ago. It also fits common sense estimates if your fronted a couple of the bigger numbers

revenue sharing is the only thing keeping this team standing. If revenue sharing didnt exist this team would have a 10 million dollar payroll if it even existed at all.

I know this doesnt placate peoples feelings and there and certainly deficits in ownerships decision making etc but thats the cold hard facts for probably 10 markets if not more

The team is barely scraping by but the franchise has increased massively in value during Nutting's ownership. It is like a magic trick.

Even if the team was just scraping by Nutting could personally fund a luxury tax-level payroll with his own money and end up making twice that in 2025 on his existing wealth appreciating in value alone. My heart f***ing bleeds for him.

Once again either missing the point or completely unaware how unrealized gains work.

Because your making it about Nutting personally instead of, you know, how the economics of baseball work.

I don't think you understand how economics work........If Nutting and other small market clubs were did scraping bye, they would have forced changed 2 years ago during the last labor agreement negotiations. Not one of them made a peep... WHY?

They're making a killing financially, that's why. You can read all of the funny numbers from the stooge media you want, logic tells me a different tale.

Thank you

I actually do know how economics work and i also understand how labor negotiations work.

No owner is going to break ranks without having the approiate amount of votes and at least interest from the player union.

Unlike yourself whos entire argument is based on on your feelz.

Logic does not apply to "feelz"... the reason the small to medium markets did not push for change is that they love the current system. Not every owner are in sports to win, allot are in for making money. See Nutting

Sure not all are in to win but that doesnt change the fact of how the system actually operates. Small market teams dont make any sort of substantial profits. Pirates have taken on debt the last 5 years. The Twins have so mich debt they are almost out of covenant compliance.

Yes they dont worry too mich about debt because of the teams appreciation but they certainly ARE NOT profiting from the current system year to year personally. So much so that Nutting in particular neither makes a salary nor makes payment to owners of capital. So if and when the team does have positive cash flow the money stays with the team and isnt distributed.

Your “logic” is nothing but feelz and bluster

This is going to get extremely ugly and I'm all for it.

Skenes is already being asked and quoted about how it's "on the players" blah, blah, blah, and everyone knows that's not how they truly feel. The players aren't mindless drones. They understand what the fans understand. It's just not kosher to call out Nutting and the scheme openly.

The most we'll see, in season, would be the manager being fired, though any replacement is going to come from within, which is almost assuredly as awful as DS.

All people can hope for is Shelton being fired over the next few weeks, GMBC and his entire staff is canned in the fall/winter and Nutting eventually sells as a mandate to keep the team in Pittsburgh.

Outside of the fact that Nutting is personally responsible for a decade of diminished quality of life of 1.5-2 million people, it is hilarious that we are in year 6 of Ben Cherington and our current rotation is a 1:1 gift, Lil Bich Keller, Bailey Falter, Andrew Heaney and a converted reliever. So stoked at the job that Benny boi has done.
