Not investing in the team when lucking into the best pitcher of this generation should be a criminal offense.
They do not need to sign a super huge name like that. Heck, only like 4-5 teams can. It's tough for Pittsburgh. Even if the owner was willing to sign Ohtani/Soto/Freddie Freeman etc.

Yes, they are clearly not a destination, but if you have a contending teams, good players will come for a chance to win. They do have to do a better job setting up the foundation before that happens, that's for sure.I pressed send early on that by accident, finished my post after but even the 2nd and 3rd tier free agents/players looking to sign and trade is just unrealistic really.
Pirates are one of those orgs that have to be shrewd and draft and develop and idefinty undervalued players in trades/rule 5's etc if they are to ever build a sustainble winning team.
Who's their best homegrown player since prime McCutchen (to impact the Pirates, not another team)? Bryan Reynolds?
Just not good enough at all.....
