Jets have $25.5M left ... they can sign Ehlers no problem.ther are 23 roster spots that need to be filled. Not everyone can get 8 million plus a year.
There are other contracts that need to be done within a year or two as well.
Either his decision or the jets… but my money is on Ehlers being gone.
Heinola in the wings?!It feels like an overpay to me. I almost would have rather those funds go towards Ehlers who is more difficult to replace than Pionk considering we have Heinola and Salomonsson waiting in the wings.
Heinola “in the wings” reminds me of that of a video who discovers that a cat stowed away in their plane wing mid-flight as it crawled towards the cockpit.Heinola in the wings?!That is beyond wildly optimistic, considering the history.
Right? What are you talking about? I can’t believe how under rated Pionk is around here.
I think if Nik was staying, that would have been the first signing that got done.Too much term and too much money. Where is the Ehlers extension

The big question is do the Jets want to sign Ehlers or does Ehlers want to try FA?
25/26 Cap projection is $95.5M
26/27 Cap projection is $104M
27/28 Cap projection is $113.5M
The Jets can keep this group together no problem ... the real problem is figuring out how long to keep them before their production drops off plus your prospects will be coming up ... its a fine line and not that easy.
For me the reserve is that Pionk played well his last contract year and then was way worse in each following year.I can't figure out why some people don't like this signing?
Pionk is in the top 10 RHD stats in most goals, points, +/- and the majority of those 10 RHD make more money and have Winnipeg on the no trade list.
So please tell me what's not to like about this signing.
That's no school thinking ... today's society is spend now and don't worry about tomorrow.I think we need to be careful about those cap projections. They were made prior to the current geopolitical climate. If we are heading to another recession and the Canadian dollar continues to lag then I'd imagine the league doesn't hit the revenue projections needed for those cap numbers.
If I was a manager I would be planning contingencies for a lower cap ceiling then what is projected.
That would be excellent.I will admit I was hoping for something in the 6's for 5 years.
The Samberg-Pionk pairing is an elite one though. They complement each other so well. If we get 3-4 years of them playing at this level Pionk and Samberg's potential contract will be worth it.
I also don't think it hurts when trying to sign Samberg that he will get to continue playing with another Hermantown Hawk/Minnesota Duluth Bulldog.
Give Samberg the Slavin deal and call it a day.
I have a feeling he might test free agency and see if a team plays him first line and gives him first line money, which I think someone will. Especially with cap going upJets have $25.5M left ... they can sign Ehlers no problem.

I want Samberg for 8 years. I hope this doesn't get in the way of that.
Also just adds to my expectation that Ehlers is gone. Can't get Sammy for 8 years, pay Pionk 7 and still have room for Ehlers.
