Our roster is fine. They're young, they're not scrubs.
please read what I said over I’m not down on our young guys I can’t stand the roster additions this off season absolutely no effort to try and win this year.
We could have easily added better players ( not hard) to take the spots of Sanford and Ennis etc that wouldn’t have effected the growth of our young group.

I’m looking at 5th in the Atlantic and somewhere around 16 - 21 overall then playoffs next season.
I just Bugs me that we wasted this year with our talented young core that’s surrounded by a bunch of crappy veterans.

I have no idea what was available but surely they could have replaced Ennis, Sanford, MDZ roster spots will more productivity short-term and pushed for a spot this year IMO.

If they all reach their potential, then we have an absolutely deadly top 6 in two years:

Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
Stützle-Pinto-Boucher

Pinto. I have never seen Mann happier then when he said “Shane Pinto” on his draft day. I trust Mann more than anyone in the organization, and the way Pinto has progressed as a late blooming prospect is nothing short of a phenomenal.

This kid is a Patrice Bergeron clone.

They didn't waste a year whatsoever. It's a development season. They need to see what these young players have and it's really exciting so far. This team is 2 to 3 years away from really competing. Pinto has 12 games, Stutzle is still a teenager and Sanderson isn't even here yet.

Rebuilds take time, I don't understand the impatience.

It's easy to build your fantasy lineup with Tkachuk, Sanderson, Grieg, Sokolov, and whoever else in it, and then look at the opening night roster to see what looks like half an AHL team.

It will come, just hard for some to wait. I think the Sens are taking the right approach and it does take time.

I think Boucher is a minimum 3 years away but it looks enticing, Sharkalov would be awesome as well.

It's not a waste of a yr developing younger players & a young team given most analysts don't think they would make the playoffs anyway. Sanford, MDZ & Ennis are not the kind of players that get you into the playoffs anyway, they are support players not primary players. By the TDL I hope to see Sanford, Tierny, Holden, Ennis, J. Brown & Forsberg all traded & that should make room for a number of younger players. They won't be spending money until this team makes the playoffs & they think they have turned the corner.

If they insert too many young players into the lineup too soon they make too many mistakes & might be stuck in their own zone all night or physically over powered. They seem to be taking their time & adding 2, 3 or 4 per yr which is probably right. I would prefer these guys mature quicker, but everything takes time. I expect to see Sokolov, Sanderson, Gustavsson & one of JBD or Thomson in the lineup after the TDL. Next yr Greig could challenge for a roster spot, JBD, Thomson & maybe Kastelic, by the end of next yr if they haven't left school after this season Kleven & Boucher could be here too.

I don’t see the rule that suggests you can’t acquire anyone good when you know the core you mentioned is ready to blossom.

you can rebuild, develop and push for a playoffs spot all at the time.

you don’t need to be a shit box for 5-6 years straight.

They havent even made the playoffs yet, they dont really even know what they need to address. They dont even have some of their top draft picks in the lineup yet. Wasting assets before you even know what to fix doesnt make sense. They arent going to be a shit box, thats the point they are going to be better by virtue of players getting opportunities to play and get better. Just like they did in the 90's they got better via a rebuild from within. Going out to get players that may block players also isnt condusive to long term success. So if they go out and get a player then where does Formenton play? How do they know what they have in him?

I am not advocating for additions like MDZ they clearly needed a D man and cheaped out. What I am saying though is people are complaining before even seeing this team this year when all the young players are a year older. Pinto clearly looks like a player he needs and deserves prime minutes.

I’m not suggesting bringing players to take time away from the Pintos etc

My point is they added crap veterans to this core I’m confident that the majority of our young guys will make us better this season just by being a year older but I also think they could have made the playoffs with adding the right key additions on the short-term.

I’m all for letting our young core play through mistakes I just hate that we always add shit to help them.

How tho? good experienced help costs Hyman type contracts, if you think the help is bad now wait until everyone gets paid and they need guys making 1 million or less to fill out the roster

Batherson will score the most points. Pinto will show the most growth. Norris will solidify himself as a #2 A C.
I think you are underestimating Norris...he will be a legit #1 C by the end of this season who can beat you anywhere on the ice.

Pinto probably does show the most growth but he has more room for that.

Batherson rounds out his game even more and becomes a menace with his forecheck.

Have to add if Stützle takes a big jump in production as well this team will win a much higher % of games this year...let alone having even league average goaltending.

Boucher will have a lot of competition to earn a spot in the top-6

For now there's still Connor Brown who could be extended but there's also Formenton, Greig, Sokolov, Jarventie and even a few others that could end up being good (Ostapchuk, Daoust and Johansson)

Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
Stützle-Pinto-Jarventie
Formenton-Greig-Sokolov

No spot for Boucher! :sarcasm:

We would still require a 4th line RW.

Norris all situations centre 60-70 points
Batherson physical 30 goal winger
Pinto defensive specialist with 50 point upside

I think by process of elimination Batherson has to be on the bottom but damn those are some nice pieces

This won't be settled until they are retired

But it's looking good to have all 3 locked down thru their primes
