The problem with QMJHL (and any junior league really) is there can be such high scoring game that it can make players have high point totals. It's the same with the first half of the season in the Sweden U20 league when the good teams blow out the bad teams and all of the prospects end up with most of their points.

Cape Breton had a 10-3 win over Baie-Comeau, 8-1 win over Val-d'Or, 7-1 win over Acadie-Bathurst and 6-1 win over Saint John. Saint John was a good team, but maybe they got blown out because they were missing their goalie or something. It's hard to put a lot of faith in the numbers when there are truly horrible teams in the league that give up huge numbers of goals.

The Desjardins model does discount the Q more than any other league. And Dubois still comes out with good numbers when you run his season through the model.

If they did it based on position, they f'd up. I don't think we know that is the case though. Maybe they actually thought Puljujarvi was seriously overrated, and Dubois was the best player?

Or maybe they thought Puljujärvi was good, but thought Pierre-Luc Dubois was better? Puljujärvi doesn't have to be overrated for them to like someone else more.

No. Lindros was always way thicker and stronger. Puljujarvi is significantly lankier and softer than Lindros was at this point. I don't know if people remember but Lindros was destroying adult men by the time he was this age.

That's my memory as well.

For God's sake, please say this a few more times in some more threads.

Id feel worse about it if he were on a powerhouse but the fact is he was the offensive driver of that team and everything was about Dubois. Pretty much the reason I like him over Tkachuk

My biggest issue with this is that they could not find a way to trade down for this guy. He was projected what around 8?

I was not expecting to get a player that we were going to have to wait on to develop for a couple years, without getting someone who could help us now via trading the pick.

On that note, it is time for my summer HF vacation. I don't really want to think about hockey now till training camp. Might even skip rookie camp this summer.

See ya all in a couple months. Have a fun summer.

No, he was not projected around 8. He was projected in the 4-6 range.

Vancouver wanted him at 5th, and by today everyone knew it.

So the only possible trade down was to 4th, and that only happens if Edmonton values Puljujarvi much more Dubois/Juolevi/Tkachuk. You have to assume Jarmo asked them - he spent a good deal of the afternoon discussing something with Chiarelli.

Though Mixer passed on a tweet saying that Dubois was told this morning that he was going to be a Blue Jacket. I have no idea if that's true or BS.

He was always considered top 5 and Craig Button (TSN) says his closest comparable is Jamie Benn. I believe this was the right choice... Complete package

No. Vancouver was probably going to take him 5th and there were rumors that he was who other teams were trying to trade up to draft.

Dubois said something about it in his interview.

Gotta almost wonder if the whole PK thing was a bunch of smoke blowing by Chiarelli to prevent a deal being done between Vancouver and CBJ, I mean, CBJ doesn't trade with Vancouver if they fear that the Canadiens are going to sweep into the 4 spot to grab Dubois.

 I would love to know if that were true. Would be pretty clever, but we'll probably never know.

I'm of the belief that Jarmo and Siren were over critical on JP because he was Finnish.

CHL players can get unrealistic PP time so it is best to look at Even production.

So since the 05 draft.
with Modern era 67-68 to 15-16 18-19 rookie season rank. Players in last 49 years
the best Age NHLE of CHL players.
1. Crosby 84 EVP NHLE 2nd best 19 yr season
2. Mcdavid 77 EVP NHLE 3rd best 18 yr season
3. PLD 66 EVP NHLE
4. Stamkos 60 EVP NHLE 7th best 19 yr season
Marner 53 EVp NHle
D. Strome 53 EVP NHLE
Hall/Seguin 50 EVP NHLE
Reinhardt 49 EVP NHLE

so yeah the 3rd best even production in CHL.
the best not named Crosby or Mcdavid.

I am darn glad he is not in our conf.

His Even Primary points NHLE (EVG + Assist1) = Hall/Seguin's EV NHLE (EVG + Assist1 + Assist2)

- Most players are side dominate. equally skilled left or right
- Full 2 way game
- One best CHL PK forwards.

Dubois at 3 was BPA

You got the most complete player in the draft and a guaranteed star. His floor is a 50pt 2-way beast while upside is Jamie Benn, maybe more

He was the BPA according to our staff; what our fans are upset about was that he wasn't the consensus #3.

I'll be honest, a consensus tends to be wrong. A lot.

What NHLE are you using? Can you link to it? Is the EVP NHLE different from the desjardins equivalencies numbers in the pdf that's floating around?

Just curious, would love to see it.
