Matched up against Nathan MacKinnon last night and held him to zero shots on goal. Added two apples.

Jets and Kings fans do NOT want you to know about this.
Definitely DO NOT watch the highlights for the Chychrun goal where he single-handedly created it out of nothing starting with a great defensive play.

He hasn't had quite the point or goal output as his line mates, but the McMichael-PLD-Wilson line is dominating actual and expected goals in matchup minutes and he's been essential to that. Something tells me he will probably not continue to shoot 3.5% the rest of the year as well ...

Who are these Jets fans you are talking about?

Jets fans shouldn't be at all bitter about PLD. There can't be many players who have given more value to a team on an all time list.

First the Jets trade PLD trade the special snowflake Laine for him. Laine proceeds to become a SUPER special snowflake with the BJs to the point where their GM is in the media begging anyone to get him away from the team even attaching a 2nd to finally get someone to do it.

PLD came to the Jets had a somewhat understandable slow first season. Then the next two years he's a very good 2C, scoring 60 points, on very reasonable $5/6 million dollar contracts and helping Kyle Connor to his two best offensive seasons.

Then the Jets trade him for Vilardi, Iafallo, Kupari and a 2nd.

All things considered, PLD was an amazing value for the Jets. 10/10 would do it again.

As a kings fan i watched the caps-avs game out of boredom and yes, our BOY Pierre remains fatally allergic to physical contact especially at the net front and anywhre near the boards.
You can have him.
You'll find out.

He was great last night. Two assists. Odd to post this after saying you watched.

You don’t like PLD, but he had a great game in Colorado last night.

I’m not saying PLD is a world beater but if that was your takeaway watching yesterday’s game I think your frustration at him as a Kings fan might have tainted things. McMichaels first goal was scored with PLD moving to net front, and the Chychrun goal was scored as a result of PLD initiating contact and physically overwhelming a defenseman at the line to win the puck. Nobody is going to mistake him for Cam Neely or anything, that’s just not who he is. But it’s strange to watch one of the games where he played great and come to complain.

No you didn’t.
Those two assist came on goals scored against a kid that gave up 3goals in 6 shots and was pulled in first period. Kid looked like a lost puppy on the bench. His replacement wasnt much better. Georgy the regular starter begged off sick. Ask the winnepeg guys they saw the quiet quitter in at his best floating around

That play on the Chychrun goal was a big boy play. Outhustled and outmuscled the Av then made the nice assist for the beauty that Chychrun put in.

PLD is doing fine. He has bought in to the system and if he continues giving the effort he has been giving good things will happen.

They gonna find out sooner or later. All of us from different fan bases who’ve seen him a lot longer know who he is. Caps fans are at the “he’s going to change” battered wife syndrome stage.

Battered wife syndrome requires some level of battety. Don't think he has hurt us yet? Maybe go with the honeymoon analogy

The people wanting this guy to fail are certainly making for entertaining reading.

It's unlikely that PLD ever lives up to the contract he has, but those expectations were established by another team and it's very reasonable to assume that they aren't the Caps' or Caps' fans expectations for him. He's been great so far and he's not going to shoot 3.7% the entire season.

If anything, the kings fans out here with their pitchforks are the wife beaters. There's this obsession with PLD never being good enough, that every other fan base will turn on him too, and that we'll all see how useless he is.

At this point, it's a really bad look for some of the posters in here.

PLD "helping" Kyle Connor is certainly a take. It is now more clear than ever that PLD has Connor and Ehlers (and before that Panarin) to thank for his OK numbers. His 5v5 production has always been just OK even when playing with an elite winger like Connor. PLD was a product of Kyle Connor not the other way around.

I guess 3 fanbases who have watched him play for multiple years, all of whom had a vested interest in wanting him to succeed are idiots. :sarcasm:

PLD has the talent and the physical tools, maybe he has decided to put it all together and bring the intensity consistently rather than just when he feels like but it is too early to be crowing about it. Esp when man has 1 goal all season that too an EN goal while getting paid like a 1C.

Your team's off to a historic start and you're stuck being a poo-pooer in a thread about someone who hasn't played for your team in a season and change. How miserable are you?

The guy is discussing hockey. On a message board. Where people discuss hockey.

What the hell else are we all doing on here?

If it were anything close to a sincere hockey discussion, there'd be some give and acknowledgement of PLD's actual contributions. This is actually just bitter whining because a team hilariously overpaid the guy.

What Caps fans are saying: Yeah, no, he's probably not worth 8.5 in a bubble, but that's fine because we can absorb that. He's been playing really well for us and we don't expect him to carry the team.

What PLD's exes are saying: Waaaah, but you'll see. You'll allllllllll seeeeeee.

I’m not going to pretend I normally watch Jets games, but Connor’s xG%, G%, SF%, and SCF% at 5v5 were all much better with PLD than they were away from him, in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons. And Connor’s numbers away from PLD were much worse than PLD’s number away from Connor.

Stop being that guy who uses gaslighting incorrectly just because it sounds like a winning argument.

What I did is summarize the general message of the more ridiculous detractors in this thread. There's a post not that far up saying almost exactly what my summary was while, appallingly, comparing a hockey situation to *checks notes* battered wife syndrome.
