I don't see anything crazy in his statements, I thought they'd be way worse based on thread title.

Sounds like he's a worker bee type who feels anxious when everything's not (what he feels is) crystal clear and he doesn't have a tight relationship with his coach, and the pressure of his poor production gets to him. He says that's on him in his statements.

No question he's one of the biggest disappointments in recent NHL history, and as a result, he's going to take a lot of heat no matter what he says.

I watched him all of last season and don't think that he was as bad as some fans have made him out to be. He wasn't "bad" or "lazy" and didn't have a poor attitude, IMO. He just wasn't "good" and was invisible most of the time. The problem is that trying to get him to be visible became a distraction and all of the juggling of lines for his benefit couldn't have been very beneficial for the other players. I think that that's why he was traded, and for little return. LA didn't want to risk another season of the distraction and disruption to team chemistry that trying to get their 2nd-highest-paid forward going ended up being. Basically, he was too high maintenance, and that had a lot to do with the high expectations that they had for him. The situation may be different in Washington, and, if so, good for them and him.

Caps fan here.

I’m quite satisfied with how he’s been playing, even though the stats don’t look that great. He’s been working hard to create space for his linemates. Wilson and CMM are having the best starts of their careers, PLD helped in that regard.

The goals will surely come, he’s getting many good looks each game.

No complaints on my end so far.

Dubois is laughing all the way to the bank. Just taking it easy and chilling out with the guys and getting paid millions of dollars.

This is the exact same situation as LA last year. They were winning and either ignored his bad play or said he was playing good. Once they started losing, the true frustrations came out. No one in their right mind can say they are happy with an $8M player who has one goal in 12 games and is on pace for 7 goals and 48 points.

Does the on pace universe apply to the whole team or just the player you selectively hate? Because you won't find a single Caps fan caring about what Dubois does in a season where Dylan Strome puts up 130 points and Ovechkin smashes through 50 goals.

Also, its kind of hard to ignore his play considering he has been pretty integral to the team firing on all cylinders. He centered the Caps' best line until Ovechkin got hot and was a major reason for it clicking by providing pace through the neutral zone, backing off defenders and creating space for Wilson and McMIchael to score like they never have before. While at the same time being matched against top lines from teams like Vegas, Dallas and New York and suffocating them. He may not be putting up 8.5 million numbers but since he effectively costs 3.25 million given that we couldn't just exile Kuemper to a Russian military base and he had no place on this team and Jack Campbell tier trade value its hard to be unhappy with what he brings for that. He doesn't need to set the world on fire as long as he plays like a fast 6'4 center who can make plays at a top 6 level and forces other teams to deal with that matchup problem

That's been his play so far, big mobile skilled worker bee, very efficient if not spectacular. Basically Danault with more offensive skill and lesser snarl/shutdown abilities. Which is exactly what the Capitals needed after a year of being caved in at center beyond Strome and Dowd.

You'd think PLD f***ed everyone's mother in here with how obsessed they are with the guy. How is this thread still going?

Going by this thread you'd think he went up and down the family tree

He even said it was clearly his fault that it didn't work out. I'm not seeing anything crazy either.

if he's part of the problem sure, that's how it works or should work for every player

Uhh there are 3 bigger disappointments in the top 5 of his draft class alone

Exacly, plus people seem to forget he's essentially replacing Kuznetsov, who was not good. PLD may not be putting up that many points yet, but he's generating chances for himself and his teammates. He's doing this while being matched up against the other teams top lines a lot of the time, and his line is still tilting the Ice significantly. He's been more physical than I thought he would be, and his pace/transition has been huge for the team.

PLD always has

1. A percentage of games a season where he is god mode bull in a china shop

2. Another percentage of games where he is decent and

3. Finally he has a chunk of games where he literally singlehandedly makes you want to turn off the game.

Sounds like with the Caps so far it has been mostly 2 so far. We'll see if he can keep that going.

Seems like he's getting more consistent at 2 with less of 1 and 3 as he ages. Which is less than what LA would have wanted from him given what they paid but exactly what the Caps need with how the rest of the team slots in. Jets fans know better than anyone how valuable someone like Adam Lowry can be when the team is rolling and Dubois is slotting in a similar way so far

I remember we thought the same early on. The production never came and his play quality also dropped.

I watched the Caps-Blues and all game he's just chillin, skating here skating there, puck lands on his stick sometimes and he just passes it to Wilson or a streaking McMichael. I'm sure he really enjoys having Wilson out there on the ice with him to run other people and to protect him.

Does that mean he is still worth 8.5 million a year?
As a Jet fan that like what he did when he played in Winnipeg I am supper glad we are not paying a player 8.5 million dollars a year to score at a 0.57 pace.

I thought he had a good game last night, certainly better than his most recent few. I guess you see what you want to see.

I sincerely hope Jets and Kings fans can overcome the debilitating trauma that Dubois has seemingly inflicted upon them. There's no reason to be this upset about this player, both teams are doing just fine without his toxicity and evil-doings. Please heal, seek help if need be, and move on.

No one is saying he's worth 8.5M - this thread is very weird about that.

He's just playing a bit better than advertised, that's all there is to it. He has upside, hopefully he can bring that to the table. And hopefully he finds the net going forward.

Do I wish more from a 8.5M contract? Yes
Do I make the same trade, Kuemper and two thirds to get PLD and Logan Thompson again? Also yes.

It was never about acquiring PLD alone, but becoming a better team and the team is better now than it was last year.

8.5m for a second line centre is infinitely better than 6m for a backup goalie.

Strome is a 1C on a 5x5m deal. The Caps can afford an overpaid 2C.

If his stats are poor when he's working hard, imagine how poor they'll be when he eventually gives up like he always does.

I am sure he will end up with a lower PPG in a season where he's working hard and a fit on the roster than in all his other seasons

Tom Wilson's journey from being a plug unworthy of an NHL roster spot to carrier of Pierre Luc Dubois and savior of his career is nothing short of inspiring

I think Dubois is juat what he is, an inconsistent center that is a reasonable bet for 60 points in a year, but is also prone to having some real dud years mixed in with it.
