Has made some bad moves the last 12 months....

Got me thinking about GM´s and their relationships etc and all the talk about GM´s not offersheeting players because it will hurt them later.
Dorion got completely f***ed by San Jose in the Hoffman trade in terms of keeping him out of the east which for some reason was important for Dorion and then San Jose trades him 3 minutes later to an eastern team in his division.

Would think Dorion wasnt very happy about that but he still ships Karlsson to the same GM a few months later. Do other GM´s just dont care about Dorion, is Dorion just a complete idiot or is all of the offersheets will hurt you later "threats" just a myth? Its worse (but a good move by San Jose) imo to f*** him over like San Jose did in the Hoffman deal than offersheeting a player.

Am i the only one who thinks Dorion has completely lost it when it seems more important to him to trade out of the division/conference than to maximize the return?

In both the Karlsson and Hoffman trade there has been talk about it beeing important for him to trade them out of the division. Complete stupidity imo specially when that very likely limits his options and his team probably isnt going to be a contender in a long time....

There is merit to trading key players to the other conference in some cases.

The case of the current Ottawa Senators isn't one of them. By the next time they're ready to seriously compete, Karlsson will have been a UFA and signed wherever he wanted to anyway, and there is a good chance that Hoffman won't even be in the league anymore.

He has made a deal with the Devil in working for Eugene. I think he has some redeeming qualities as a GM if left to his own devices, but that is hard to tell. That deal will likely mean he is done as a GM once Eugene goes broke.

If Karlsson refused to negotiate an extension and is determined to hit UFA, the return makes more sense and Dorion isn't an idiot.
It's a good return for a rental in that case.

If Karlsson signs an extension with SJ, it looks pretty bad.

The one that I don't get from the Ottawa Senators, is the whole "we won"t trade within our division or the Eastern Conference". You(Ottawa Senators) are going into a rebuild, who gives a shit where you trade.

I may have found what is wrong with Dorion. :sarcasm:

Can't argue with google

Karlsson will be retired before the Sens become relevant again. I actually don’t think Dorion gets enough criticism here. A lot of people simply say but but but it’s Eugene’s fault!!! Getting such crappy returns falls on the shoulders of Dorion.

Sharks took advantage of a handicapped team again. SJ, let others exploit Ottawa please.

I sort of feel bad for Dorion honestly (well kind of). I personally think Melynk has his fingers in everything and is influencing things too much. Hoffman put Dorion in a bad spot. Karlsson trade is tough to pull off when he wont sign an extension. The part where I dont know if I feel bad for him is that Duchene trade. I am not sure how much influence Melynk had on that trade. That trade looked bad the day it happened and it looks catastrophic now. No GM whether or not they are being influenced by the Owner should of made that trade.

Sens are owned by the Sharks
