Coleman stays. He is exactly the right type of vet you keep around through a re-whateveritiswearecallingit.

His wife(who is a former Cowboys cheerleader btw)'s family hosted the entire team for Thanksgiving this year. Blake works his ass off and is quality in all 3 zones. Damn decent goalscorer too honestly. I think it would surprise people how much it would take to get the Flames to consider moving him.

If I could pick one, Coleman or Anderson... There's literally no contest. Coleman's a good damn player always.

Considering the back story about former cowboys cheerleaders and the dinner cooked i guess the ante has to be upped...(did this happen in Calgary or why does it matter?)

It kinda feels like half this post didn't matter at all...

It was while the team was on a road trip in Dallas.

The Sabres are really more interested in playing prospect pokemon than making the playoffs anyway. Wonder what their odds end up being in the yearly draft lottery, another draft party for Buffalo fans how exciting.

Coleman would be leading the vaunted stacked with talent Sabres team in non-PP goals

Cool story bro. We will see ya at the lottery draft. I was more curious about the cheerleaders and I assume Texas bbq dinner and less curious about essentially watching a bum beat up a bum but whatever

Well that definitely increases his trade value by at least a 2nd round pick!

J/K, just thought it was a funny inclusion in your post 🙂

The key difference there (besides age) is his contract. Even if we assume his play doesn’t fall off a cliff, or at the very least revert to his career norm, he isn’t worth close to the same at $4.9M as he was at $1.8M.
Show me a 40 pt guy that hustles and 2 cups for 1.8M. He is worth closer to 4.9M

Given that the latter is a fairly tall order you’re more likely looking at the former, and since Coleman isn’t the sort of player teams want to overpay for it’s pretty much a given that Calgary wouldn’t get what they would consider fair value for Coleman plus the cap dump coming back. So unless you’re going into a full rebuild and don’t mind eating the cap dump in order to obtain some futures for Pickles you’re probably better off keeping him as an example for the young guys.
Coleman is the exact type of players that team want to overpay for a cup run. Tampa did and won.

Now his contract may be the problem but if the Flames retain….

9 points in his last 13. 5 goals in his last 5 games. Sustainable? Probably not, but doesn't make sense to trade him this year, or retain right now if your Calgary.

Tampa overpaid because he was on an extremely cheap contract that they could fit in under the cap and because he provided tremendous value for cost. He’s still a good player but he is no longer a great value due to his costing almost three times as much (not to mention being several years older.) It’s a pretty simple concept.

Show me a 32 year old making $4.9M a year for the next three years who is worth the same as he was at 28 at a little over a third of the cost.

Also let’s not jump the gun here. Coleman’s off to a tremendous start but he’s been a low 30-point guy for most of his career and it’s highly likely this season is an aberration.

There’s just no way he’s returning the equivalent of two first round picks at this point in his career and with the contract he has. It absolutely will not happen.

Nobody said he would return 2 first picks

But you are arguing he has no or little value. He does.

Nobody said he would return 2 first picks

Somebody said he would return close to what the Devils got for him, which was a first and a recent first-round pick. What I said was that the Devils got all that for him because he was on an incredibly cheap deal which is no longer the case - he’s several years older and costs almost three times as much - and that, combined with the fact that his current contract not only decreases his value but makes it extremely difficult for most contenders to fit him on their roster, means he won’t return close to the same this time around. Again, a pretty simple concept that you don’t seem to be able to comprehend.

But you are arguing he has no or little value. He does.

No, I never said he has no or little value. I said that his contract makes him difficult to fit on a contender’s roster without Calgary either retaining or taking a multi-year cap dump back, and that Coleman isn’t the caliber of player that would compel the acquiring team to pay Calgary to do so. So the Flames would have to eat the retention/cap dump to make the deal happen, which in turn would likely it make it not worthwhile for them unless they’re going into a full rebuild and don’t care about wasting cap space for a few years.

Work on your reading comprehension and come back when you can understand plain English.

Huge outlier season and he still has three more seasons after this at almost 5 million itd be a mistake for anyone to take this guy at full value.

Don't see a market for him, with the flat cap. Maybe next year, after the cap goes and of Coleman keeps his play up there could be more of a market. As others have said, him, Kadri, and Backlund are looking like amazing mentors. He has value to the team in that role.
