Post-Game Talk: Pickard orders McDavid to go warp speed

I do think that you are right about people giving Pickard a little more grace than Skinner. I don’t doubt that there would be tons of comments about Skinner’s lateral movement if it was Stu that let in those PP goals. I don’t think people would’ve liked Pietrangelo’s goal either.

The difference is the huge saves that Pickard was making in between those goals. We really shouldn’t have held Vegas to four goals tonight and it’s a testament to Pickard that we did. That’s why people are willing to forgive him for the goals he did let in. While Stu can get hot he really struggled at stopping high danger scoring chances this year. It feels like most of our big mistakes end up in the net when he plays and I’m sure he wouldn’t have done as well as Picks did tonight.

Tbh I don’t even know why we’re still talking about Skinner. It’s clearly Pickard’s net for the rest of the playoffs.
At the end of the day despite blowing a 2 goal lead in the third, Pickard didn't allow that next one and that's something he has been doing very well in general since he took the crease. Skinner does what we saw in Game 1 of the Kings series far too often. Letting in back breaking goals. Pickard hasn't been. That's the difference. Not every game is going to be a Picasso and at the end of the day no one will remember or care as long as they got the W. Take it and move on. lol

League needs to find a way to have the Carolina/Washington games end after our games so I can have something to put me to sleep.

Having these series on the same night is the hockey equivalent of going from a hot tub to the arctic ocean.

Edmonton got away with a lot, but that's karma for the amount Vegas consistently gets away with, especially last time these two met in the playoffs.
They missed that call on Arvidsson but I’m not going to lose any sleep over it. Not after the screw jobs we’ve been given from the league in this era, especially the last time we played Vegas and that series against Anaheim.

The team should be alternating between thanking Pickard for tonight and apologizing to Pickard for tonight. For everyone who wants to talk about a poor defensive game with the team gift-wrapping high dangers, this is your chance. Just an absolutely heroic effort by Pickard that isn't reflected in his stats, through no fault of his own.

This game was the definition of a goalie battling, all night long. Pickard even gets his leg fallen on, and he gets scored on while he's distracted by his leg hurting. So easy to feel sorry for yourself with ridiculous things like that happening, plus the team is being morons in front of you. Just kept on battling and kept making huge saves until he didn't have to anymore.

I missed all the analysis on the cross-check to the face.

To me it looked accidental in the sense that he was going for the puck as it flipped up, not like he was pissed and trying to knock teeth out. Is that the consensus, or do people think there was intent to injure there?

I don’t know the larger context or if they have history etc.

It was so blatant and awful it felt like it couldn’t be intentional, if that makes any sense.

He’s mentally elite. A huge part of being a goalie.

Yep Pickard is 28-10-1 in the net this season that equates to a 120 point 82 game season the team is so good in front of him

and this is fine, I personally don't like when someone gets shit on for being a fan of an edmonton oiler in an edmonton oilers forum - people calling out "idiot" and "troll" and "wtf is this guy"? i like when everyone gets along

In the heat of the moment he lost his mind. Ice rage.

It was probably accidental, but like, you still can't crosscheck a guy right to the gibs.

Yup, this is the type of willpower that it takes to win Cups.

Also, for anyone concerned about his save percentage, we'll have to get used to 1980s save percentages again because the average right now in these playoffs is around .890.

For GSAx per 60, Pickard is currently ahead of Vasilevsky, Ullmark, Hill, Hellebuyck, and now...Bobrovsky. These guys have 6 Vezinas and 4 Stanley Cups behind them. If he keeps getting better like he seems to be with each passing game, there will be more big names added to that list...

He's also in a pretty nice position mentally, he's a back up having his own little cindarella run going, at this point whatever happens he can't really fail. A bad goal or two won't bother him nor his teammates and everyone including himself know he has the ability to come up big when needed.

Besides the tipped goal (as it’s poor to blame any goalie for that) Pickard let in goals you guys crucify Skinner for tonight and in his other starts.

If Skinner played this game you guys would be complaining about him giving up the lead in the third and Mcdrai saving his ass etc.
The thing is if Skinner was in net Vegas would have had 7 goals.

Accidently took the flying puck as an excuse to crosscheck someone in the face. Yep

Yeah I feel like if it’s rage it should be a solid suspension but if it was accidental nothing further.

He just didn’t look angry at all, but who knows.

Either way, it’s still for sure a 5 minute major

Even if it's accidental it should be a suspension. That's not a hockey play in any sense of the word. You have to control yourself and your stick at all times. 1 game is probably justified.

If it was rage or non-accidental that should be 5 games minimum because that's absolute horseshit and doesn't belong within 40 miles of a hockey game.

Dude. It’s over. Your guy lost his spot. Just enjoy the hockey.

If Skinner played this game, he would not have made lateral saves like Picks did. No way he makes that many huge saves. We have seen the sample size.

We are not even in the 2nd round without a goalie change. Skinner inspires ZERO confidence to the team.

I'll give SKinenr some credit. He was giving Picks a huge clap from the bench and motivating him. Cheering him on.
