The oilers could use a guy like him
Last year the Oilers signed McDavid’s buddy Connor Brown to a 1x4M deal with $3.25M deferred until this year. Interesting that that deferred money is almost exactly the difference between what Edmonton offered Broberg and what he got from the Blues.

Brown famously spent most of the year without a goal, ultimately finishing with 4g 8a.

Is Brown over Broberg the new Erat for Forsberg? Many people are saying it

Happy to see him succeed. He didn't really get much of a shot in Edmonton, and was never put in the best position. He wanted too much for what he had shown and St Louis stepped up with a big contract. Will be interesting to watch over the next few years.

I wouldn’t say Broberg has been our best defenseman but he has been fitting in really well. We were lucky to be in the position to make that work.

Broberg wanted out for awhile. The bigger mistake was letting it get to the point of an offersheet in the first place.

The Oilers should have either given him a chance over Kulak or traded him at the deadline/draft.

Blues did an awesome job taking advantage of the amateur hour Oilers Mgt.

A 2nd round pick, lol.

Look at that train wreck oil D and tell me losing him doesn’t hurt.

This move will cost the Oilers and McDrai a chance at the cup.

How in the f*** do you ship out Codi Ceci to signify a match, make room to fit Broberg, and then still don't match?? Especially when your D corps is already trash as it is.

Inexplicable mismanagement.

Because they think they can get a better player than Broberg at the deadline. If they matched any move at the deadline would have to be dollar in dollar out. Not matching they gained the cap flexibility to gain a top 4 right D without moving anyone out and an extra 2nd round pick to get that player.

It’s a move to win now not in 3 years. Losing these guys will sting even harder in 2-3 years.

Don’t know how they will get anyone better, especially, a top 4 right D. If Kane comes off LTIR they are back in cap hell.

That D core is so bad, even adding someone won’t be enough.

We aren’t actually using any of Kanes cap space and if we accrue we should have about 4 million in deadline cap if Kane is out it’s another 4 million. Who knows who could be available by then but last year their #4 guy was Cody Ceci so it isn’t crazy that they find a better player than that and if they do that’s a better D than they went to game 7 of the finals with.
