Solution, since simply implementing a cap is pretty unreasonable: have a set number of deferred contract slots. Let's start at 2

But there’s other teams that present a chance to win & wont make you defer the money. I’m not even trying to be a hater but that wouldn’t be appealing to me if I was in their shoes. I want my money asap.

There's probably something appealing to pro athletes deferring money that guarantees they won't go broke shortly after retirement.

Though these Dodgers contracts are for players that are unlikely to fall into this problem...
