With the news of Taijuan Walker's back flaring up and his velocity still down, they NEED to go out and sign Montgomery. He's right there. If Middleton is going to wax poetic about wanting to win multiple championships, he needs to push all of his chips in.

But they have Ranger & Sanchez who are pretty decent on top of one of the best 1-2 pitchers in the league.

I think teams are just waiting Montgomery out at this point to accept lesser terms.

Id imagine after the Wheeler & Nola extensions they probably never really had a big appetite for either Snell or Montgomery. Even the Snell deal probably doesn’t work for their salary/contract outlook on ultimately a 2B-3 rotation piece.
believe there’s pick compensation tied to Montgomery.

I also believe Dombrowski has publicly said in season trade at some point might make more sense for the team.
