Maybe they're just getting it all out of their system now. The truth is they've been good on the whole outside of Nola, of course.

The emergence of Hoffman is important
My fear is that a lot of them (Soto, Kimbrel, Alvarado, Lorenzen, Walker etc..), be it due to overuse or injury, are just gonna be completely out of gas by October. Then of course, there is Nola who we all but know will be starting game 2 in the WC round.

Better hope the bats keep bashing.

That sounds like horrible timing.

What the pitching did in the 1st half is irrelevant. They stink at the moment and have for several weeks with no signs of that letting up.

I have faith in Alvarado rounding into form considering he had a lot of time off, but I think the rest of them are cooked. Not sure how they are going to get outs down the stretch. If Hoffman and Strahm go into a funk, this team is going to have a significant losing streak.

Cave once again playing over Johan.

Pache coming up and out of options pretty much killed his playing time. He's a pinch runner and defensive replacement most likely unless someone gets injured.

I know the most recent sample sticks in our minds more, but the larger sample size is almost always a better indicator. The offense has been hot enough to offset the pitching for the most part. Do you expect them to hit this way all the way through October? I'd say what they have been most of the year is a better indicator of what to expect. Baseball is a game of hot and cold streaks after all.

Plus in the playoffs, rotations and bullpens get consolidated and the worse pitchers throw less and the better pitchers throw more (4 man rotation instead of the 6 they have been running). I mean they have a guy that's been in AAA pretty much all year who was a key guy for them at times last year in the playoffs (Brogdan). They aren't talentless.

I remember a similar talking point came up around this time last year about the teams WAR not lining up with playoff expectations and if the team had enough starting pitchers to make noise in the playoffs...well they were within two game of a WS.

I hope you're right.

As for Rojas, I would have him in there over Cave...or at least platoon the two of them depending on whether it's a righty or lefty in there.

Don't see how you can justify benching the best defensive CF in baseball for Cave.

Cave looks 10 years older than his actual age (30) due to that beard.

Seranthony warming up. He cant seriously be thinking of take out Wheeler?

Edit: didnt realize how high his pitch count had gotten
