Other Sports: Philadelphia Phillies 2025 (Spring Training Forward): Deferring to 2036

Rojas really screwed Wheeler today. Between the 3 runs and the extra 13 pitches.

Wouldnt bother me as much if it wasnt the Braves..they are gonna win this series now and get back on track when we could have absolutely buried them

73% ground ball rate is crazy though. He has the speed and contact skills to make it work to a degree but doing it against big league pitching and defenses is a much different beast.

Hitting the ball fairly hard though at least.

He came up on...I think it was on Eno Sarris' podcast where they talked to Longenhagen. His answer was that there is no comparable for succeeding this way in MLB in this archetype. You're really betting on an outlier.

It also lead to a really interesting discussion about how hard it is to make these top 100s for him and McDaniel now that they have so much practice with years of meaningful MiLB data. They know what the warning signs are for the various approaches and it leads to them coming up well short of 100 names.

They should have already sold high on Crawford. Probably could have used him to land Kyle Tucker. They're holding on too tight to prospects that are anything but a sure-thing..while the window with their current MLB roster gets smaller. Makes no sense.

Yeah I caught that one. Eric is the low guy on Crawford.

The MLB “leader” in GB rate last year was ~55% and only 10 qualified hitters were above 50%. We are in SSS territory but he has a track record of high ground ball rates and while the bat path can be tweaked, I don’t think you are shaving 15% off.

Word from the Phillies is that they haven’t tweaked too much since it is working and I get that as a player and they have much more qualified hitting coaches than me, but I think having such an unusually high hand position on an already tall player (he does have a crouched stance) it’s tough to lift the ball. There’s only one way to go with your barrel unless you are just a gifted hitter with innate ability to adjust your bat path on a pitch to pitch basis.

Pretty sure they tried to move him for Tucker or Crochet. Houston got Cam Smith back who is with their big league team in his first full pro season (which he’s probably not ready for).
