I think it stays close til the 4th quarter. Then the Eagles depth and talent advantages take over and they win going away.
Score at the half: Eagles 14-Pats 10
Final: Eagles 31- Pats 16
I'm watching at a Bday party full of Pats fans. I know it won't be but it would be nice to be over at half time

Disappointed that the Bucs didn't get a deal done with Evans....gotta hope they actually still work on it throughout the season

He's getting traded.
It's possible...I'm unsure and not as optimistic as some Bucs fans are who say it's just a negotiation tactic...the Bucs are in cap hell

Now I wouldn't be upset if he went to the Chargers though lol

This is an intriguing test for Desai out of the box. BOB'S offense has changed quite a bit since he was last in the NFL. You're going to see a ton of true RPOs, which means we're going to learn some things about Desai's approach to modern defense.

And of course we'll learn more about the offense since we have no idea what Johnson wants to do. A personal guess would be more designed QB runs.

Johnson had a stationary QB in Florida and wasn't much of a running QB after his knee injury in college.

So it won't surprise me if he wants to morph Hurts into more of a conventional pocket QB who uses his legs to extend plays, and fewer ROs where he's exposed to big hits. At least from TC reports, Hurts continues to improve as a passer, and it looks like they want to use Swift and Gainwell more in the passing game (with that OL, the RB screen should be a staple, go look at film of AR as an Eagles coach). With Brown, Smith, Goedert and RBs with hands, they shouldn't have to rely on Hurts as a runner.

If this is right, I am completely out on the Eagles until an OC change is made. I don't think the org is incompetent enough to allow this tree of decisions to happen. It's exactly what the 2020 Flyers would do.

Shane Steichen came from coaching Philip Rivers and Justin Herbert. Steichen designed the offense around the talent he had because that's what good coaches do.

RB Screens are only good if you design your whole offense for them to be good. It's not the Line. It's an approach to football. Everything Hurts does best takes away the Screen as part of your scheme. Even if you wanted to get RBs catching the ball later on in the process of a play, you don't need checkdowns like Andy did because the single most valuable thing your QB brings is turning those plays into positive yardage by himself. They barely did it last year, so it may tick up a bit. Likewise I could see their total number of Screens going down because we don't know if Johnson will love that TE Screen to Goedert as much as Steichen did. But it's still going to be very low on a leaguewide scale.

Running QBs tend to rely on their legs less as they mature, look at Steve Young, for example.
The ROs allowed Hurts to use his athleticism as he learned how to play QB.
But running QBs tend to have a shorter shelf live b/c of the physical punishment they take over time.
At some point you have to morph them into "real" QBs who don't depend on their legs to make plays.

So it makes sense that you'd reduce dependence on plays that expose Hurts to injury (he tends to take the biggest hits on the RO where I think some coaches just tell the defender to take him and ignore the ball).

A key to RB screens are OL athletic enough to get down field and hit targets on the second level,
Kelce, Jergens and Lane are probably the most athletic trio in the league.
A good coach designs the offense around his talent? Well, that right side of the OL is the talent.

It's Jalen's fourth year and you already want to neuter him eh

I disagree with every single word here.

Steve Young played in a West Coast offense and didn't run any less as he aged. He got light years better throwing the ball within and outside of the pocket without losing that aspect of his game.

Running QBs getting more serious injuries has no supporting evidence beyond anecdotes. What's left is the accumulation of injuries and that seems to be what concerns you. In order for that to be the correct approach, you would have to willingly choose to directly prioritize winning in 2027 and 2028 over 2023 on a team with enough talent to be a contender. That's preposterous for a team as well run as the Eagles are. Hell, that's preposterous for the worst run teams in the league.

This isn't the Flyers where we're worried about what percentage of outcomes put you on a treadmill. This roster is designed to win now and is good enough to do so. You do not pass those seasons up. Ever.

I have twelve 2 Unit or more outlays today. That's a lot for me for Week 1.

@JojoTheWhale I'm sitting here watching Howell revolutionize the sport, and thinking about how absolutely idiotic it is that UNC gets to have Maye right on his heels.

I've long been adamant that there's no such thing as a "QB Factory" program, but UNC of all places wants to claim that title.
