Closer game than it should have been but nothing wrong with facing a little adversity early in the year. I’ve always felt that the first 4 weeks of the year are glorified preseason. The cream rises to the top as the season progresses and I see no reason, barring devastating injuries, that the Eagles shouldn’t be cream. They still got the W against arguably the best coach of all time. It was sloppy but they got the results. I imagine the offense will be better and put the ball in the end zone more. Good to see Davis an Carter having some impact
Yep. AR used to start seasons 2-2 on a regular basis and the fan panic was palatable.
And that was with 4 preseason games and starters playing a game and a half.
And every season, some team unexpectedly starts hot, commentators go crazy over them, and quietly bury their columns when said team loses 6 of their next 8 games.
My favorite goes back to Kotite starting a season 7-2, beating SF in SF like a drum, then lost 7 straight, missed the playoffs - and SF, world champions.

Most teams fall into the 7-10 to 10-7 range where your season is determined by a few (un)lucky bounces.
The best teams win 11+ because they're good enough to win on their bad days, the worst teams lose 11+ b/c they find ways to lose when things go right.

Eagles beat the Patriots on the road with bad weather and Belichick with a whole offseason to prepare for them. That's the mark of a good team, winning despite a below average performance.

I can only imagine the reactions had they lost that game. Cause based how many are, they did lose. Wasnt a pretty game but they probably faced a top 5 defense in the NFL on the road against one of the best coaches ever who had 4 months to get ready. Im curious to see how the Patriots play the Dolphins next week. Jalen Carter led all defensive tackles in pressures in the entire NFL this week, granted Williams plays tonight so that could change.

I’ve held back on this because it’s insane to say about a guy with one game in the NFL. But I saw every snap in college. He wasn’t just clearly the best player on the team at Georgia even as a Sophomore on one of the best college defenses ever. He looked like one of my favorite players ever in John Randle was an outcome that wouldn’t surprise me.

It was one game and the Patriots had major injury problems. But now he looks like that in the NFL too. And he’s 2” taller and at least 20 lbs heavier than Randle ever was.

Yet he still has absolutely no chance to be the best defensive player in the Division because Micah Parsons to me is the unquestioned best guy in the mold of the Watt —> Donald lineage.

Wonder if ESP will steal this and post it on Twitter to farm engagement.

This has to be one of the lowest scoring weeks in years. I was impressed by CJ Stroud. He needs to learn to slide and not dive and take such big hits though.

Would you go back in time and take Parsons over Devonta?

I have been on the Devonta train since he was a Sophomore putting up 700 Yards.

But I would go back in time and take Micah Parsons over every non-QB to enter the league since at the very least 2017 and maybe forever if we're just talking about today forward. I'd have to think about Myles Garrett, but that's the only one.

Obviously you take more than that if you're starting their careers from the beginning.

Ok, here's my big positive after a quick flip through. Whoever was calling plays did adjust well as the game transpired. The PA game came out later. They started getting into 3 and 5 step drops and it at least looked functional.

This was a worse Hurts game than I thought, but some of that may have been by design and some of it is understandable. It feels like the early game plan was designed runs and to get him moving to make throws. He's one of the worst QBs in football at doing the latter. It's also where I said I wanted to see improvement from him this year, but that doesn't mean they should build the gameplan around it. I don't care what the weather is.

He also doesn't react to muddy pockets well and they absolutely got their asses kicked up front on offense. So you have to make your personal decision on how much you blame him for that. To me, I blame both. Almost no one would have played well getting beaten as badly as they did along the OL. He also did worse than what I would consider average. He bails quickly and didn't have the dynamism to his scrambling for whatever reason. The sliding was clearly emphasized, so my inclination is to say he's being coached to do so. I don't put that on him at all. The thing I think he did best is not fall into a death spiral as things crumbled around him like some QBs do. That's not easy.

So I guess this would be a bad time to say that the Linebackers and Safeties (other than Blankenship) were even worse than I thought from the broadcast angle?

Nakobe had no idea what to do in Zone, but he at least had some plays where you can see a path to success. Cunningham and Evans were Nate Gerry at his worst bad. I don't think either outside Corner was great, but so much of why they looked bad on first watch was not getting help where it was expected. If those two can just be normal bad, it would be huge.
