Flame away if you so choose, but, I feel Love is overrated. He had a nice 2023, but, overall, he's "meh" to me. I'll take a healthy Hurts over a healthy Love (and you know I ain't no Jalen Hurts stan).
(Cue Nazareth)
Another quick hook.
They Baalked at the idea of firing himHow is Trent Baalke still employed? What the hell does he have on the Khan’s?
Probably going back to Alabama.
Really????? Really? They Baalked at the idea of firing him
To me, Love is a bit of a Rorschach Test QB. Most people see the same big squiggles, but what the whole picture adds up to varies wildly. I wasn’t a fan coming out, and I wasn’t as high as some people last year, but he has the ability to simply destroy a game when the team also doesn’t fall apart around him. He’s Jacksonville Trevor Lawrence. He’s post-post-prime Matt Stafford.
I just have Hurts down a full tier from that and on the acceptable Starters level because he doesn’t have those true field-warping games. I completely understand wild opinion swings on Love/Lawrence because we all prioritize different things and they have clear strengths and weaknesses. If you’re low on Love and value floor more than I do, I can see how you would arrive there even if I disagree pretty strongly. The process makes sense.
An audible groanI know you liked it
I don't need to tell you that's a win for meAn audible groan
Can we talk about the DeJean factor? Was this all just starting to gel around that time or has his athleticism and smarts actually added what was missing in coverage?
In other words, surely DeJean is an important piece, but he can't be the straw the stirs the drink right?
It's both happening at the same time. Maddox is cooked. But that's not even half of it.
To play in a Fangio defense, you need time with it. It's a relatively complicated system made to look as simple as possible. So when you chart it by coverage type, it may not look all that different from what they did last year.
But coverage schemes only work as well as the execution by your weakest links. Most Zone Snaps aren't just Spot (go to your spot) schemes anymore. There are match patterns and rules to them. When you hear something like "Shanahan broke the rules to that defense," this is what they mean. The defender followed what he was supposed to do, but the offensive scheme/play meant it was an impossible situation for the defender.
Look at Kevin Byard being back to a solid player in Chicago this year when he's not saddled with Matt Patricia's oversight. Defensive coaching requires not just communication with your players, but teaching them to communicate properly with each other in real time. The only way to do that is with live reps.
Reading the name (and now typing) Matt Patricia made my eye twitch.
Am I a horrible person for wanting an excuse to trade Jalen and keep Tanner?
I hate watching Jalen Hurts play. You can just tell immediately that he can't see the field well. Can we graft longer legs onto him please? Not horrible, but not too bright either lol
Do you guys like watching football be played in the snow?
