The stumbling rule is stupid. Some of these rules feel like they were written by lawyers thinking of technicalities and using specific wording or jargon.

Going for two makes sense from 1 yard, given the success of the tush push, 85%, that's an expected value of 1.7 points, even if you think maybe it's only 75%, 1.5 points.

The bad call was the 4 and 1 pass, I can see running outside off a fake tush push, but a pass is too risky for 1 yard.

The defense seemed to go to sleep when they went up 22-0 and let Lawrence get into a groove.
Fangio as well, the vanilla 4 man rush got no pressure, he also went into a bit of a shell.
And how good is Mitchell, they hardly threw his way, but Rodgers had a bullseye on his jersey.

He was throwing in zone blitzes earlier in the game, but when they went up 22-0 he let Lawrence get into a groove. I don't think it was just Fangio, it was also the natural tendency to relax when you have a big lead, it was a trap game to start (easy opponent, Dallas next week) and having a lead reinforced that tendency.

This team lacks a "big dog" pass rusher, Carter simply hasn't dominated the way he should and the others aren't guys who'll dominate a blocking matchup consistently. Jags had a patchwork OL, backup LT, lost their RG? during the game, should have been able to shut them down the second half.

So Fangio has to scheme pressure. One problem is CJGJ looks like he lost a step and Rodgers doesn't look like a starting quality CB, while Maddox . . . so it probably makes him wary of sending 5 or 6. At this point I'd take my chances with Ringo and McCollum/Brown. Better to lose a game in the regular season and have athletic kids ready for the playoffs than go with fading veterans who are unlikely to discover the fountain of youth by week 18.

One thing that was really impressive is how much Baun and Dean have improved in coverage. Night and day from week one. And Smith is starting to look like a legitimate 3-4 OLB, not a stand up pass rusher. That LB coach is doing a hell of a job.

Haven't heard any rumors. Unless he goes big, doubt there's anyone who'd help.

And given Goedert, Slay and Mailata will return in a few weeks, you'd not just give up assets, but you'd have to cut a player or two.

Didn’t realize until now how fortunate the Eagles are with their schedule this year. Already played the Saints, Browns, Giants, & Jaguars while still having the Panthers & another game against the Giants on the schedule. All of those teams are currently tied for the worst record in the league before tie breakers. :laugh:

That's just how Fangio defenses work. The meaningful recent change is that they've been able to play the run really well out of Nickel. Well, Fangio Nickel. So that means it presents like 4-2-5, but the personnel is actually 2-4-5. It's also why worrying about DE vs OLB isn't really a concern. Those guys have to do a lot whatever you label it.

To be clear, I haven't looked at the coaches' film yet to see what they did and did not do schematically. But the entire point of Fangio's defense is the illusion of simplicity. We really do not know anywhere near enough to make conclusions from the broadcast angle. I won't get to that for a couple of days.
