Yep. For people not familiar with his work, I find JT to be QB positive in a good way. He'll openly criticize decisions while saying over and over again how much easier it is to make most of these determinations in a meeting room vs on a field. It almost feels like a disappointed dad. He knows you can do better and just wants to get there.

Jalen has never been an on schedule thrower or a natural passing QB, even as a mobile/athletic QB he really doesn't throw well on the run. Overall as he gets older, less mobile his ability to win us games with his legs diminishes.

I said he missed the window on the Davonte deep throw IMMEDIATELY. It wasn't underthrown, it was late so it allowed the help DB to make a play on the ball. If that guy isnt there it's pretty on the money. To channel a little bit of JT here, we can't expect a ball with 45 yards of air distance to be dropped into a bucket.

But the fact that it was late allowed help to recover and break it up. Get. The ball out. On time.

I like how he doesn't presume to know what the progressions are specific to that play, you can make an assumption based on how you would have drawn it up, but not all coordinators like to do it the same way or have the same priorities.

Im sure that was engrained in him since high school and college. That was a common phrase in high school and college practice I was around .. hit your back foot that ball better be out, I can still mumble it today. qb coach or coordinator sitting at the end of the drop and as soon as the qb hits it .. "boom, out, do it again" you don't do it, you hear "the ball has to come out, do it again".

The Jalen tendency that immediately leaps to me is that he immediately locks in on the sideline route. Ignores the routes heading to the middle of the field until it's too late. I'm still unsure if this is by design or a Hurts thing, but I suspect the latter.

Yes, it's called the Assistant Coach of the Year

Yep, they started awarding it about a decade ago.

The PFHoF also added an award in 2022 for what they call behind the scenes people that include Assistant Coaches. It's not perfect, but at least people like Mouse McNally, Dante Scarnecchia, Alex Gibbs, and Monte Kiffin are there in some form now.

I wish there was something to be done about guys like Bud Carson and Wade Phillips.
