Other Sports: Philadelphia Eagles (NFL): Love, Hurts - Super Bowl LIX Champions (Jojo's Favorite Time Of The Year - Combine)

Who had an excellent combine that didn’t turn out to be an excellent player?

Who had a bad combine that turned out to be a great player?

As someone who doesn’t pay much attention to the combine what does it offer that game day tape doesn’t show?

As an Eagles fan the answer to your first question is always Mike Mamula.

It just puts hard numbers to things. Same with measurements. Tape matters of course but you’re still projecting to a higher level of football. So not everything you put on tape is going to translate to the next level.

You can of course find some exceptions to the rule but it’s a lot harder to be a very good player without being a very good athlete in football. Hell even the one position where a decent amount of these historical exceptions exist is probably the QB position. In the last 20 years or so the standard of athleticism at that position is higher than it’s ever been. Even if you’re more in the mold of a classic drop back passer in today’s game you’re still expected to be able to pick up some yards with your feet if the play breaks down at a minimum.

Starting to adjust my predictions for the offseason....

-Feeling surprisingly confident that Baun will be back. gonna guess a 3 year deal.
-One of Sweat or Williams will surprisingly be back
-Also surprisingly, i think Becton will get paid way too much by a team that's beyond desperate for good OL. Chicago comes to mind right away. or possibly the Patriots since there's no obvious OL for them to take with their 1st rounder.
-Trying not to get attached to that 32nd pick. think it either gets moved for Howie's "big splash" or a trade down... though i don't think Garrett is a given. I could see Cleveland being way too stubborn here. I could also see Howie pivoting to someone like Maxx Crosby if they can't get him.
-Expecting them to sign someone in FA that nobody is expecting or talking about but will make way too much sense when it actually happens. Think back to when they signed Hargrave.
-Back to the draft: out of days 1 and 2, might be a boring prediction, but i'd expect a lineman on each side of the ball. If they somehow don't move 32... i'd guess their picks go DL in 1, OL in 2, TE in 3.
-One last random trade prediction: Kenny Pickett goes somewhere for a conditional 4th that can become a 3rd with playing time.

Homie the money isn't there for Baun + Sweat/Williams + FA

Well there goes my Round 3 hope.

If I get a little time today, I finally got my 2nd and 3rd games of Willie Lampkin tape. I have to see what this looks like.

For those unfamiliar, he's a 5'11" 290 lbs IOL, but his wingspan is huge (6'6"). It's one hell of a study in leverage.

I gotta reign in my delusions for Burden at 32. It's not good to get my hopes too high.
