It's easy to criticize but the absolute last thing in the world the Sixers need now is for Maxey to blow out his knee in a meaningless game in April. I'm not really a fan of tanking but the Sixers are already past the point where, apart from the draft pick, they need to protect their most valuable assets. And Maxey is easily the most valuable asset the team has now.

Yes, they deviously planned for their franchise star to probably never be healthy again after signing him to a giant extension. Brilliant observation.

I am more than happy to side with damn near anyone against sports management. Doubly so when presumably you have some doctors saying you need surgery and the team wants you to play.

But I don’t think anyone is trading for that contract no matter how pissed everyone is. Morey’s making 10 MM. Embiid’s on a super max. No one is walking away from the money, so it is what it is.

Normally I'd be on the player's side, but I have a feeling that in this case the team wanted him to have a procedure that would have given him more or less a healthy knee but would have required him to miss all of next season (after missing basically all of this season) and he refused. At the end of the day, I don't think a team can force a player to have a procedure against the player's will. If the doctors recommended meniscus replacement and Embiid was ok with it, I don't think the team can say "no, we want you to play this year". Of course, if they found doctors who recommended what seems to be (at best) a band-aid approach, that's a different story and those doctors should probably be sued for malpractice.

Did you watch the video HC linked? I’m asking because one of the things Shams says is that at one point, the team thought he needed to play on it and he thought he needed surgery.

Obviously we don’t know the whole truth here. It could be a difference of which surgery as you said. I understand that I can’t know for sure. But that’s why I posted what I did.

Yeah, just watched it and I don't think that tells the full story. Shams says that he wanted surgery during the season, which suggests to me he wanted to be able to play again this season. From what I can recall, it wasn't until they shut him down that reports came out about exploring the "radical" procedures.

I love the guy, he's given us some amazing performances. And I really feel bad for him, he was on the cusp of true greatness, virtually a lock for a 2nd straight MVP and 3 straight scoring titles and putting up historic numbers. And almost overnight it's gone. Whatever they do, I hope it works. But watching him this season, he looks like someone that needs a lot more than just another torn piece of meniscus "cleaned up".

Obviously they didn't plan for it Embiid to get hurt, but they did know his knee was in bad shape before the season and giving him an extension. Both Maxey and George could play but they're being held out to tank.

Morey signed 2 of the worst contracts in the NBA and is somehow going to be rewarded with a lottery pick and he's being praised for it :eyeroll:.

This is the NBA. True high end stars are almost always tradeable no matter what contract you give them. That’s what the max contract does. If you have one willing to sign it, it’s a perfectly reasonable course of action. The 2% of the time it blows up in your face is not what good orgs use to determine a path forward.

He’s being praised for responding to the utter disaster of a season properly. No one is happy a potential contender went up in smoke. You don’t even understand what you’re bitching about.

The whole reason paying Paul George was so preferable to so many other options was that it didn’t cost assets except cap space. If it didn’t work, they kept all of their picks and the valuable future Clippers’ 1st. Oh and they took what is considered now to be one of the best players in last year’s terrible draft at 16. They’ve generally drafted extremely well under Morey. His big weakness there has always been that he doesn’t ride it out long enough.

Nobody would trade for Embiid and that contract right now.

Sorry im not impressed. Like I said in my original post tanking in the NBA is easy.

Signing George was never a good idea IMO. He didn't even want to come here and ultimately only came here because we offered him the most money.

Agreed on his drafting.
