It's literally insane that they did a removal vs a repair. Literally insane. Wouldn't be surprised if that was a decision made by player, coach, and GM in the face of multiple ortho doctors saying it isn't the best option

Lonzo was in his mid 20s by the time he had his cartilage transplant and faced a year long rehab. The time is ticking on Embiid at 31. And honestly, I believe the clock has struck 11:55pm.
It's possible that they made the decision for the wrong reasons but from what was reported, repair wasn't an option. It 's only possible in a small number of cases.

Oh, and just in case anyone thought that things were just going too well for the Phliadelphia 76ers basketball team...

Gonna go out on a limb and say he wont be back.
He might play a few games here and there just to justify the contract somewhat but this is the end.

Onto the next era.
That's a definite possibility. My guess is he will have some kind of cartilage replacement like what Lonzo had. If so, then most likely he would miss all of next season too. If it goes well I could see him then coming back in '26-'27. He'll be "only" 32 so it's possible he could play at a decent level if he's motivated. Lot of "ifs" there though.

Is there, i am assuming no, any sort of LTIR in the NBA or are the sixers kinda screwed for the next several years
It should be asset accumulation mode for the foreseeable future, in which case the salary owed doesn't really matter. There is no path to contention for this team. There is going to be management and coaching changes and by the time the next "core" is ready to complete, George and Embiid will be off the books. It's obviously better to have a clean cap as it allows more opportunity, but they made their bed.

If Lonzo Ball is the goal scenario Embiid's career is essentially over.

Well any suggestions for my new handle/avatar?

Called it..said the Sixers should have seriously explored trading Embiid when the Knicks wanted him and now we learn they were willing to go full Paul Holmgren/Chuck Fletcher mode and offer picks galore.

Josh Harris and Morey need to be subjected to a press conference with POTUS...
