I don't think Nick Nurse should be fired. His seat should be getting warm, but he's not my main concern. Coaching can't force chemistry,

Morey's seat should be scalding hot. He's the one that constructed this incoherent mess of a roster. Even the biggest bright spot (McCain) has several question marks attached to it. (is this sustainable? are these stats inflated because he's on a bad team? can he and Maxey share the court together?)

I personally don’t see how this could possibly be thrown on Nurse or Daryl.

You have to separate the big picture and the individual games.

I think PG has been mostly mediocre, but it feels more like a %s swing, along with a lack of gravity elsewhere. McCain looks like a home run draft pick (Bona could be nice long term too); Yabusele looks like a savvy move; I hated Caleb Martin’s game last night, but he’s been good defensively and generally as expected. They still have their assets. It’s still hard for me to criticize Morey’s vision.

But Embiid looks wrong — more wrong than ever. Even his shots look like his lower half isn’t doing anything. He didn’t look this off in the Olympics or playoffs even. If his knee is really f***ed, then bye bye everything. No one on the planet can maneuver around that.

Nurse’s lineups though have been a shit show. There’s no way this team should be dead last in offensive rating. We’ve seen Lowry playing 30 min/game on dreadful numbers, Dowtin minutes, all bench lineups, Yabusele didn’t play the first half last night. To some degree, everyone is doing their part with this start.

The mistake was to double down on Embiid and go with George.
That's similar to drawing to an inside straight, once in a while you'll get lucky, but generally you'll lose your shirt.
The hardest thing in sports is for the FO to admit failure and fold 'em.

Certainly is for another Philly team I can think of!

Fun with numbers in small sample sizes. Here’s every NBA rookie post-merger with a Box +/- of 5 or higher in chronological order:

Michael Jordan
Chris Paul
Victor Wembanyama
Jared McCain

I have vague memories of the '64 Phillies, losing the pennant to StL left a life-long scar. Since then a lot of great athletes have come and gone through our teams. I really don't think anyone has impressed me as much as Maxey. We've thought of the Sixers as Embiid's team for years now, and maybe (if we're lucky) he will remain the team's best player. But I think a torch is being passed. This is becoming Maxey's team.

Tyrese Maxey Is Taking a Leap That Transcends the Basketball Court | OnPattison

"He's natural-born. He's natural-born," Paul George told reporters on the fourth day of training camp. "He's one of those guys that was meant to lead, regardless of his age, his size. He's one of those guys that was meant to lead. As a new guy coming in - I know I've been in the league for a while, but - I'm still going to take a step back and just kind of see the landscape of the team and how each guy operates."

"I've been very impressed with Tyrese, his approach. I've always said this since I first met him, he's well beyond his years with his maturity. And it's showing. He's special."

McCain would be higher on the list if Embiid wasn't dragging him down when he comes into the last few games ;)

I would feel a lot better if so many of Embiid’s touches weren’t in Europe. Why is he so far out?

Wait. Is McCain playing the whole 1st quarter? Wow.

Mind blowing watching McCain now taking good on-ball 3s. Spent his first few possessions laughably blowing past defenders playing too close. Then his next working high PnRs and shooting. Next time up, driving but dishing to the corner open.

I watched Maxey unexpectedly hit his 99th percentile outcome as a shooter. Are we going to see it again with McCain, ball handler?
