He is not competent enough to lead a team and get players to listen.
They are all just talking about changing culture.
If the HC is not able to get them to listen and change their habits in a year you better get someone else to do it.
I think he is a rigid unflexible conservative coach who tries to do it the "right way" but has not the tools or skills to make it happen on the ice.
He is not a leader he is an assistant who tries do be a head coach.
He probably will make it through the year, but I hope they fire him if the team is bad and a good coach becomes available.

The three people who wrote coach of the year might be right. I'm willing to take my lumps on this. Definitely, zero chance of being fired -- that would mean one big losing streak after this quarter start.

Housley deserves a lot of credit after today's game. He also deserves some gripe.
Taking Boogaloo out tonight after last nights game was a good call. Unfortunately Nelson sucked as his replacement. Keeping Tage in tonight after he sucked last night is very confusing to me.
While I'm not totally happy with him, I absolutely have to give him credit tonight for getting Sam off the # 1 line. He sucked and wasn't pulling his weight. Great call!

The team is coming together and exceeding expectations. Phil is looking like our next Lindy at this point as I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread. I'm still not sold on him as a coach but he has the team together and frankly, pulling off miracles right now so he is definitely on solid ground and has at minimum until the end of this season and as a maximum until he turns 65
Way to go coach Housley!

After the first 2-3 preseason performances of effort and passing, I would've said he'll make the year.

Every preseason game since at Toronto has given me visions of 17-18 all over again, which, he can't possibly survive past December.

I want a 5-10 game clip of real-stakes hockey to confirm, but I'm airing on the side of 'Fired at the 40-game mark', which is right before the new year.

I dk if it was Housley, the team, or both, but something changed after the San Jose game.

I haven’t had much problem with him this season at all. Some odd lineup changes but that’s every coach.

The Thompson thing is the worst though

Housley has been pushing the right buttons right now and I think Steve Smith has been a huge addition to this team. Housley is learning and adjusting just like a young player entering the league.

You know the team is having a good season when Tage Thompson getting bottom 6 time is the focal point of people's rage.

I'm enjoying the ride and this team is adjusting really well to in game adversity to which the staff have to get some credit for.

It's not just a 5 game win streak. It's a 5 game win streak where all 5 teams are currently playoff teams. That's impressive.

Went with Adams at the beginning of this poll. Think I'm probably the closest to being right if the year keeps on this trajectory.

Good for you.

We are at the one quarter mark, teams do collapse. But it’s an objective fact that we are playoff team right now and I for one didn’t expect that. Looking at other comments, few did. Not crazy about Tage Thompson use but you have to give Housley his due.

To me his best use — there were obvious ones — was Pominville as third wheel on Eichel, Skinner. Pairing the top two was obvious but Pominville was not at all. He’s a perfect fit — he gives them some D and isn’t required to always keep up. It’s almost a Jochen Hecht role. Better shot.

His obsession with Thompson is puzzling. I think the only reason he is in the lineup is because of his size. I also wasn't a fan of him taking Pominville off the 1st line especially when the line was playing so well. Hopefully he learned his lesson there because as soon as he put them back together they got 2 huge goals last night. Other than that I think he's done a pretty decent job. It's like any person of normal intelligence who gets put into a job they are not qualified for. Eventually after doing it over and over and over you start to get the hang of it and know what you are doing.

Why wasn’t Housley qualified for the job?

Quite interesting to see the comments midstreak and then to see what is being said now in the Housley thread.

I think he gets fired if things don’t improve in a hurry and we continue too lose and at this point I’m all for it.

Botterill isn’t the problem we are only key in year two of his plan , his drafting and trading has been phenomenal and he has rebuilt The Amerks into a winning franchise so those are all positives . He has done a really good job cleaning up Murray’s mess that was left behind .

But with some of the talent we have on this team we should be playing a lot better and I mean a lot better . We haven’t won two games In a row in two months and if this continues the rest of the season there is no way Housley survives . We see how Terry Pegula operates and looking at our last 4 coaches Rolston , Nolan , Bylsma and now Housley not one of them lasted into year 3 with how poorly they played. If Botterill isn’t willing too fire Housley in the offseason then Terry and the Black Widow will just overrule him but I’m sure Botterill is smart enough too realize if things don’t improve in a hurry Housley is as good as gone.

I wanna win like crazy but If that means sacrificing yet another season too be in the NHL Draft Lottery than so be it. Jack Deserves better , Dahlin deserves better , Reinhart and Risto deserve better but if we have too lose too get Housley out of here than I’m all for it.

I tried too have more faith in him but my patience with him has run thin
