Former Canes and Sharks prospect goalie Eetu Makiniemi.

Makiniemi was apart of the Brent Burns to Carolina trade a few years ago.

Eetu is looking for a NHL deal but may have to settle for an AHL contract if he doesn’t impress at Flyers TC, wouldn’t hurt to have another young goalie in the organization as injury insurance.

He is certainly one of the goalies in the league.

He already tried finding a Liiga contract but there were no takers. A basic but reliable NPC in goal, low-end backup upside.

He and Pyotr Kotchetkov both first played for the Chicago Wolves during the same year. I remember being psyched about Makiniemi because he had such a strong start to the AHL season before his injury. Looks like times have been tough since then but I still want to believe he'll find a spot eventually.

Very very limited sample sizes in general, but what little he has, has been quite decent. The most relevant is 14 GP in AHL with 11-2-1, 2.06 and .922

... unless, of course, they were looking to give an actual prospect playing time rather than sitting him while cap dumps like Petersen play the bulk of the games in LHV. But why give time to their own draft picks?

Flyers draft picks are playing in the NHL, AHL, as well as in the KHL and major junior.

Seems like they are where they should be.

Not sure how adding another goalie to camp and the pre-season roster is a bad thing.
