Why on earth would the Flyers trade Provorov? That makes no sense at all.
The Flyers will sell Giroux, Braun, Brassard, Thompson, Yandle and if someone wants them Jones and JVR.
They will swallow some bad contracts to maximize their return and try to make the playoffs next season.
No need for a rebuild or anything

The Caps are not going to trade a 1st and their top 2 position prospects for anything right now.

Meanwhile. Why do the Caps need either of the two Philly stars? Nothing against either but the Caps dont need them.

Depends on Backstrom and how he comes back, but G at 50% retained for the right price would be definitely what we need.

I kind of doubt Philly would trade him to us though either way.

Again, I ask why? How is he what "we" need? If Backstrom doesn't come back, which he appears to be ready to do any day now, that makes some sense. With him back in, I dont see it. Put Giroux on the wing in the Mantha spot, if he isnt coming back? I could see that

We don't know though how Backstrom will play. Last we heard was that we hope he plays a game before Christmas and then evaluate from there.

He's been out a very long time and I am uncomfortable with the idea of McMichael or Protas anchoring a line in the playoffs if it comes to that. It's much too early for either of them.

G's price might be too great to swallow anyways, but its just an idea.

Tampa acquires players they don't "need" all the time - and they seem to win a lot.

Better players typically = better team. If you think you have a real shot of contending, grabbing Giroux isn't anything to sniff at.

If Backstrom plays, I am confident that he can play. If he can't be better than Eller, then it would only be because he can't skate. His hands will be fine. If he can skate, he will be fine.

McMichael isn't ready. Protas, is another story. I think that Laviolette would be fine using Protas behind Dowd. He played 18 mins last night. But.....Who is the left wing on the 2nd line? Backstrom and Oshie and who? Backstrom Oshie and Giroux would be tough

I see what OP is going for here but I agree with the consensus; Provorov is a bridge too far in this deal.

Remove Provorov and simplify.

Giroux 50% retained for 1st + 2nd

Probably as high as the Caps will likely go, also quite possibly not enough but the Caps aren’t going to go much higher and they’re not going to trade McMichael, Lapierre, or Alexeyev for a rental.

Giroux isn’t an ideal fit so I’m not even sure the Caps would entertain ANY deal for him. If JVR were expiring and made half what he does now I could see interest but otherwise I don’t see much on that corpse the Caps would pick at.
