It's fun and painful to see the prospects doing well.

1) Great that they are picking up and taking off again.
2) We have to watch this slop until they are ready to go

Based on Hextall, next year seems like it'll be a struggle because I highly doubt he has 4 rookies/1.5 years on the blueline and I highly doubt Konecny/NAK/Lindblom make the roster too, 2 will probably be on the Phantoms and based on past, Konency will go back to Juniors again.

I just wanted to cut n paste so you knew someone replied.

I think Konecny makes the team next year as I think he needs less work than the others. Especially where he can't go to the AHL. Very similar to Provorov. I think he gets the nod to the NHL and Sanheim starts in the AHL.

Next year, our AHL team will be fun to watch again.

I think Konecny makes the team next year too. I also think the Flyers could have start the year with three current prospects on defense: Gostisbehere, Hagg, and Provorov. IMO Sanheim and Morin will start the year in the AHL.

Hextall will have to have something to sell fans next year. I know it has only been two games, but I thought well before the season even started that the Flyers were in for another year like last year, maybe even worse since the team was coming back pretty much as is except one year older. So if they do have anothe bad, which is a big if, there isn't much he can do with the salary cap to change the roster to sell to fans. The only thing he can do is play the kids to keep fans interested if they are ready or close.

They weren't fun in Game 1....

But that's my thinking..do we really think Hextall has Ghost/Morin/Provorov on D? What about Hagg? Does he make it? That makes 4 guys with less than 1 year experience.

Is the status quo that much better?

I doubt four guys will make it outright but management cant keep spinning their wheels saying they are a playoff team with pretty much the same exact roster and have fans believe it. Last year they blamed the coach for missing the playoffs. They don't have that option this year.

Why weren't they fun to watch in game 1, because they lost 4-3?

I think Provorov and Ghost start on the Flyers next season, with Morin and Hagg, and Sanheim in the AHL.

Yea. I didn't watch, I was kind of being a dick, but yes, they lost and they gave up a bunch of goals quickly.

Didn't bode well for the new defense, but I know there is a big adjustment.

From what I have read the Phantoms out-shot and out-chanced Syracuse... they had a crappy 1st but LaBarbera should have been better, and then outplayed Syracuse the rest of the way, and should probably have tied it up were it not for some great saves from Gudļevskis.

I mean, I certainly expect playoffs from them.

Also someone maybe said it in the last thread, but Philippe Myers has tied his point totals this season in 10 games (compared to 60)

Just got done watching the Phantoms game from Saturday. First impression, LHV needs to step their stream game up. No audio and showing fans jumping around every 20 seconds gets annoying after a while.

-Team looked very unorganized. Couldn't sustain pressure in the O-zone. Labarbera wasn't very good.

-Drewiske sucks. I don't know how Gordon thought him and Morin would be a good pair. They don't compliment each other very well at all. Brutal turnover behind the net that led to the first goal.

-Morin had his moments- good and bad. Looked much better once they got him away from Drewiske, but that didn't happen until the 3rd. Also being paired with Drewiske means less time in the O-zone. I wish they would just put him with Gostisbehere and let those two go to work. It took Morin a year and a half in the Q before he started to make his impact. I don't expect him to take that long at the AHL level, but he's going to need time to adjust to the pro game. You could see him feeling out the flow of the game early rather than being more assertive. Thought he defended well, but I don't see the AHL challenging him much on that front-not a ton of skill guys in the league. They had him and Shayne on the ice during the last minute down by one which was encouraging to see.

-Gostisbehere was solid. Not a lot of flashy plays we've come to expect, but played responsibly. Moved the puck well. Nice low, quick shot on the PP that led to the 1st goal. As mentioned Leier had a good look late in the game, but Shayne was wide open in the high slot and would have put the puck through the net if he got it. He was pissed to say the least when he didn't get the puck. I wouldn't say that's one of the best games I've seen him play, but he was still the best player on the team imo and that says something about the kind of player he is.

-Hagg was alright. Still saw three plays that made me shake my head. Two times he went into the corner one-on-one and just showed no urgency to get possession of the puck (and he didn't) and as a result the team got pinned in their own zone. Another play I recall where he just played his gap so soft and it led to a quality scoring chance. Keep saying it, the kid has talent, but plays like that are going to hold him back from being an impact player. Also Andrew MacDonald being in the AHL means no PP for Hagg.

-Really liked Martel. Kid is relentless. Showed his wheels. Scored a garbage goal in front which was nice to see. I think he's going to have a nice season. I don't know if he's an NHLer, but it won't be due to a lack of effort. He plays balls to the wall.

Watched the game as well on HS this weekend. Agreed with most your points. One of the two Hahg moments it seemed like he was trying to survey his options, and there wasn't any and he tried to kill time. Think Hagg is a player who plays to the level of competition. I actually thought he played best overall game out of all D. Drewskie blows. And I'd like to see them feature more Liere and Cousins

The whole Phantoms defense looks bad in that highlight reel which is alarming given how good the individual players are supposed to be.

Given that half the defense spent the preseason with the parent club, a little adjustment period is probably to be expected. If they look bad in November, then "break glass and panic."

I hope one day the switch is flipped cause Hagg will never play in the NHL until it does. To many times he just seems to hold on to the puck way to long when he does not have to. Shame cause he has a ton of talent.

I thought he moved the puck well, its just like I mentioned, there's a few times throughout the game where he makes you want to rip your hair out.

Think they were weaker last year and they were the only league that looked halfway decent against the Russians. :dunno:

I was wondering if Myers had an outside shot of making the team, but I guess he'll need more than 10 good games to get back on HC's radar. Maybe next year.

One-time PP goal for Aube-Kubel to keep his point streak alive. Kid has a great release.
