Call made no sense at all whether they ended up at the right ruling or not.

Unless my feed was deceiving, it appeared to clearly hit either the glove or the stick right above the glove. Either way the kicking motion doesn't matter at that point.

If off glove = no goal.
If off stick = goal
If they can't determine which it is = call on the ice stands.

Good point. I get why they don't want players kicking at a puck since that's dangerous. Otherwise they should just count stuff off the body.

It's about intent, which I think is an odd standard, but that's the rules the refs have to work with.
