8 games on the 4th line... when the Phantoms best skater over the season with a veerrrry good SHL year behind him last year too.

He is a Euro and not physical despite being very gritty and playing all 3 positions and being a legit PKer...

so yeh, no matter how many points you score, how well you play 2-way, always going to be at a disadvantage.
I think it was more about giving him a taste of the NHL.
His real chance at winning a job is next fall in TC.
Lycksell is a "tweener," not really skilled enough for top 6, not suited for an "energy" line.
But there should be openings on the 3rd line next season, especially if Laughton is traded.

I think he'd play best with Laughton so of course they'll trade him

I would say he is probably more "skilled" than some of the guys who have played top 6 this year if talking hands, passing etc.

3rd lines in the modern NHL are not just energy lines though... they need skill and scoring ability.

Because if your 7-8-9 fwds cannot pace for ~100 points or more between them then your team is likely shit.

Watching him, he didn't look nearly as NHL ready as Foerster, more like Desnoyers, where you could see flashes, but also see that spending the rest of the season in the AHL was a good thing. I simply didn't see great vision from Lycksell, good but not great speed, a decent shot, but nothing stood out. Someone who looked much better at the AHL level with bigger windows and more time.

Both players will need to get stronger, as you could see with Farabee, functional strength is important for offense, just be able to play in crowds without getting knocked around.

I think that's one reason they give these kids cameos, so they understand why the training staff wants them to do certain things over the summer to prepare for NHL play. People scoff, but Frost is a much stronger player than 3 years ago and it has improved his game - he's not playing a physical game but he's not shying away from dirty areas or board battles like he first did.

MacEwen is RW, Lycksell a LW.

When MacEwen moved up the lineup, JVR, Allison, Laczynski, Brown, were all out, they were playing Willman, Sedlak, Bellows. When JVR and Allison came back, MacEwen went to the 4th line then was traded.

No, it's more that this team despises playing youth and thinks that you develop players by punishing them, grinding away their skill, and injecting futility into their lives until they flame out.

Line roles are dumb. The concept of an "energy" player as defined by this team is a player who isn't in the league anywhere else.

ZMac played 23 out the first 25 games, averaging 13:08 at ES, 7th most out of Flyer forwards.

Allison played 14 of those 25 games, Laczynski played 18, Brown played 7 and JVR played 6, so they weren't "all out". There was no reason MacEwen had to get 13 minutes a game at ES, other than Torts is an idiot who couldn't tell Zac was a total waste of space on offense.

Tortorella doesn't give a shit. He was flipping players from position to position all season. This doesn't function as a defense. He does not view position as a limiting factor.

A LW can't play RW....but Braun sure can play forward!
I think they tried Lycksell at RW, if I remember, it wasn't very pretty.
They seemed to have wanted to give Braun the PT to meet his bonus targets.
Those bonuses may explain why they couldn't find takers for him.

Would be cool if the Ghosts actually had two goalies like Charlotte so they didn't have to ride the guy who played five periods for them last night.

Of course, they technically shouldn't have even been in the playoffs anyway and wouldn't have before last season.

They do. Unfortunately one of them is in the Gulag.

I have really fond memories of the Peter White, Mike Maneluk days in the late 90’s early 2000’s when I was young and just getting into hockey. It seems like the Phantoms haven’t been good since that stacked team that won the Calder Cup in 04/05. That’s really all I got and I just wanted to get it off my chest

Rotruck is mistakenly believing the Bears/Checkers series will start in Hershey. Which you'd expect given they finished ahead of Charlotte. Too bad the AHL is poor!

First time all year the Phantoms were shut out apparently.
