Tough to say. Semin’s was embarrassing, Phaneuf was more of a spectacular gaffe that could happen to anyone.

Phaneuf’s was a fail this time. Semin’s would be a fail any time.

I always saw the Phaneuf thing as a rat move by Ruutu (no surprises there of course). Tries to pick a fight with a guy, then trips him and skates away. It was effective and absolutely hilarious to watch and I still smile every time, but that's not a fail on Phaneuf's part.

Uh Semin didn't fail. Marc Staal was cowering under that deluge of bongo blows. Staal is the guy who failed there.

In truth hammer fists are a legit tool in a fight. As funny as they look, they can do serious harm.

That said, the Semin gif is objectively excellent and hilarious.

Actually, both were kind of goofs, but Phanuef played this fake tough guy role to a tee.
